Default Croatia Beach trip help!

Hi-

I am thinking about spending 10+ days this summer (July) on the coast of
Croatia. I want to find a nice apartment with great views and an
outdoor patio, also with great ocean views.

I know next to nothing about the area but it looks like the area around
Split might be best... close to this town for its shopping, restaurants,
nightlife but a little away so I can just relax on the patio.

I've checked the archive and looked at the commercial site that gets
posted here from time to time, but...

I still would be grateful for some help with:

Specific apartment rentals (view) and/or agencies.

Car rental.

Eating.

ATM's/Credit Card/Currency.

Beaches/activities.

Ferry from Ancona, Italy to Split.

Am I missing something?

Thanx.

that's true, souther, the better¸. Split is a great city, but it is a city.
And all the Croatian coast is beautifull, but the islands....
I would recomend the islands anytime. And the ones around Split are the
best. I would recomend Hvar, great nightlife, beautifull beaches. And there
are lots of little islands around Hvar where you can go swimming. And the
scenery is nice, and it's the island with the most sunny days in croatia.
Restaurants are plenty, but shoping- well i don't know. it's not like in
Split, definitely. I spend every summer sat least two weeks on Lastovo, the
far most island (i think a ferry from Ancona to Dubrovnik stops there).
That's a very small island, but beautifull......... well actually i could
spend hours writting you about almost every island on the south adriatic
telling you how great they are. So you won't miss where ever you decide to
go. If you have any questions, just ask, on mail, or here.

well you can rent a car in bigger cities, in Split definitely. I don't know
about the price, though..
    > Eating.

is extremely good in Croatia. And with farely litle money you can get a good
meal. Whatever you choose from the sea is great.

    > ATM's/Credit Card/Currency.

There's plenty ATM's. Especially in cities, in little towns not so plenty...
currency is croatian kuna. speaking out of my head 7.2kn (kuna)=1?

    > Beaches/activities.

What do you want to know?

    > Ferry from Ancona, Italy to Split.

Exists.if you'll be having problems with getting the timetable, contact me
via e-mail, and i can check it for you (i'm in Zagreb).

I stayed on Hvar just before the Yugo war and agree it is a lovely island.
And Split is also great to visit, especially the palace of the Roamn emperor
Diocletian.
I travelled the whole coast of the former Yugoslavia and much of it is very
beautiful.

A good alternative is the area near Dubrovnik

Sorry, you'll only get (Adriatic) sea views

I see some posters suggested Hvar - it's nice, but I personally prefer the
island of Korcula - also reachable by ferry from Split. The island is really
beautiful, with some fantastic scenery, and it is sort of in between the
cities of Split and Dubrovnik so you can take day trips if you like.

You can contact the tourism board and they will provide you with the
apartment (you let them know you want view, patio, etc.), and they can find
what's best for you. Or, you can contact the tourist agencies. There are a
lot of small (private, family owned) tourist agencies, and some bigger ones
like Atlas, Generalturist, Kompas, etc.
Tourist board for the town of Split: www.visitsplit.com; e-mail:
[email protected]
Tourist board for the island or Korcula and Dubrovnik (they are in the same
county): E-mail: [email protected];
http://www.croatia.hr/destinations/d...on.php?dest=77.

Also, I love the town called VRSAR in Istria - it is small, with very nice
views and wonderful sea, and close to Porec, which is one of the main
tourist towns in Croatia. It is approx. 40 minutes of drive from
Slovenian-Croatian border. Tourist board for Vrsar: www.istra.com/vrsar;
e-mail: [email protected].

    > Car rental.
Also, once you reach your island or mainland town of choice, the tourist
agencies can rent you one or send you to the nearest rental car agency. The
last time I checked, the rent per day was around 50 euro (but that depends
on the type of the car).

    > Eating.
Fantastic everywhere. If you go to the island of Korcula, I personally
recommend the restaurant called "Addio Mare" (fish specialties) and if you
go to Dubrovnik, don't miss restaurant "Nautica" just before the main gate
to the old part of the town - they have a nice terrace overlooking
fortresses and sea, and a fantastic *black risotto*. For Vrsar I recommend
the Konoba Kod Ilva (inside the Vrsar Marina building).

ATM's/Credit Card/Currency.
ATM's are available in most tourist towns. You can pay by credit card as
well. Currency is Croatian Kuna, and the current rate is about 7.44 Kn per 1
euro.

Beaches/activities.
Very nice, with lots of sport activities like diving, paraglyding, etc.
