Re: Counter Demonstration
ARKADYA got caught!
Should we Never Forgive, Never Forget? --- DFM ellie clemens wrote in message news:[email protected]... This story is an obvious fiction; it has all the hallmarks of an urban legend. Whoever wrote it seems to have decided at the end to make the soldier into a woman, while forgetting to change the masculine pronoun earlier on. And the writer seems to assume that both of these people would be speaking the same language.... I searched for it and found it's been around for a while: http://www.snopes.com/military/marine.htm Runge wrote: Who is she to you? Another brainwashed bushy groupie? Your daughter in law? You met her in front of the UN ? "ARKADYA" a écrit dans le message de news: [email protected]... Message ... letter from home from a marine with the multinational force in Bosnia: Dear Dad, A funny thing happened to me yesterday at Camp Bondsteel (Bosnia): A French army officer walked up to me in the PX, and told me he thought we (Americans)were a bunch of cowboys and were going to provoke a war in Iraq. He said if such a thing happens, we wouldn't be able to count on the support of France. I told him that it didn't surprise me. Since we had come to France's rescue in World War I, World War II, Vietnam, and the Cold War, their ingratitude and jealousy was due to surface [again] at some point in the near future anyway. I also told him that is why France is a third-rate military power with a socialist economy and a bunch of pansies for soldiers. I additionally told him that America, being a nation of deeds and action, not words, would do whatever it had to do, and France's support, if it ever came, was only for show anyway. Just like in ALL NATO exercises, the US would shoulder 85% of the burden, and provide 85% of the support, as evidenced by the fact that this French officer was shopping in the American PX, and not the other way around. He began to get belligerent at that point, and I told him if he would like to, I would meet him outside in front of the Burger King and whip his ass in front of the entire Multi-National Brigade East, thus demonstrating that even the smallest American had more fight in him than the average Frenchman. He called me a barbarian cowboy and walked away in a huff. With friends like these, who needs enemies? Dad, tell Mom I love her, . . My business does contract work for the US Military, among others. And our office is situated about three blocks from a US Military Base. When a hand full of protesters show up at the gates they get front page news which can last for day. Even if the crowd of fifteen is estimated by the press to be, "in the hundreds". On Monday we had to use a back parking lot here because a Pro-American rally outside the base expanded to the point that traffic had to be re-routed. Several of us walked over to see the crowd, which were just a polite flag waving group. And unlike their counter-parts, not attempting to block traffic or sream obsentities and everyone in the area. This rally was, we found out later, only announced on a few radio stations, no newspaper or local broadcast news announcements. The results were, by far, the largest gathering any of us had seen in the area. And it received back page coverage by the local evening paper. With no photo and no mention of the size of the crowd. Broadcast news featured camera shots that minimized the crowd size. And one station interviewed a well-known local socialist (who is called by the media a 'community activist') who found a location at the fringe of the crowd and tried to describe the effort as anti-Bush. Previously I never had much respect for the local media. Which is pretty much down to zero now. |
