Copenhagen to St Petersburg

Hi,
Hope this isn't too obscure, but what is the best (ie cheapest) way to
get from Copenhagen to St Petersburg? I managed to find a fare on
travel.yahoo.com for US$310, but I was hoping to get there for a bit
cheaper (maybe by ferry/train/bus?).
Any recommendations would be much appreciated!

You might research train to Stockholm, ferry to either Helsinki or
Tallinn, then train to St Pete.

Bear in mind that any non-air journey will take a LONG time. For example
(from the excellent European timetable site at
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/que...wrequest=yes):
Koebenhavn H 12:36 X2 538
Stockholm Central 25.02.03 arr 17:40
Stockholm Central 25.02.03 dep 17:40 transfer 60 min.
Continue by bus
Stockholm Värtan 25.02.03 arr 18:40
Stockholm Värtan 25.02.03 dep 20:15 Boat
Turku sat/Abo ham 26.02.03 arr 08:00
Turku sat/Abo ham 26.02.03 dep 08:00 transfer 20 min.
Continue by bus
Turku/Abo 26.02.03 arr 08:20
Turku/Abo 26.02.03 dep 12:00 IC 134 InterCity
Pasila/Böle 26.02.03 arr 13:51
Pasila/Böle 26.02.03 dep 15:49 D 34AJ
St Petersburg Finlya 26.02.03 arr 21:59
In other words, 31 hours!
I suggest you check fares from Copenhagen to Helsinki - at least HEL to LED
is only 5 hours by train...

Here if one wants to save few euros, it would probably be more
economic to take the 8:40 express train from Turku harbour to
Helsinki. Or take the boat to directly to Helsinki as Turku is
certainly bit of detour on the way to St.Petersburg.

The trouble spot above is clearly the fact that if one arrives from
Sweden by night boat, the next train to Russia is the Repin in the
afternoon as the morning train Sibelius leaves Helsinki already at
7:42, while the boats dock in around 8 o'clock.

Aren't there any ferries that go straight to St. Petersburg?

Perhaps, but not that I've found. There may be tour/cruise boats,
though, and thse frequently have no requirement for a visa, but you
msut remain with the tour group at all times.
