Interesting - I was tempted to put Cologne on the list too.

Cool. I'm only a marginally bigger one than I was when I started posting
in r.t.e., and that's all around the waist. Often erroneously referred to
as early-middle-age-flab, but correctly known as
late-thirty-something-comfort. ;)

During December, January and February in Moscow the average temperature is
slightly lower than in Helsinki. Also extreme low temperatures are lower in
Moscow (-40C) than in Helsinki (-30C). Probably a town somewhere in the vast
neighbourhood of Northern Urals off the Arctic Sea is the coolest place in
Europe.

Actually Helsinki IS much influenced by the Gulf Stream. I recall that one
study suggested that winters would be the whole 6 celcius degrees cooler if
there was no warming effect of the stream.

Similarly you can extend the EU to the Antarctic and by loosely definining
one of the research centers like Vostok around the South Pole a city or
town, we have a very cool place there. The lowest recorded temperature
about -89C and the annual average some -55C.

Arkhangelsk or Archangel, city (1990 est. 418,000), NW European Russia, on
the Northern Dvina near its mouth at the White Sea. Although icebound much
of the year, it is a leading Russian port and can generally be made usable
by icebreakers. (One of many quotes available from Google)
Hope this helps to fill in the gaps in your obviously scant knowledge of
Geography.

Arkhangelsk or Archangel, city (1990 est. 418,000), NW European Russia, on
the Northern Dvina near its mouth at the White Sea. Although icebound much
of the year, it is a leading Russian port and can generally be made usable
by icebreakers. (One of many quotes available from Google)

London was voted the "world's coolest city" by Newsweek magazine in, I
think, 2000.

In article <[email protected]>, Juliana L Holm says...

I live in Munich and I'm not sure what's cool here (except perhaps for
the weather today).

Paris is an "entertaining" place with lots of activity, cultural events,
street artists. Rome should be a funny place too, if you avoid the
tourist traps.
