Default Connecting through to Belgrade from US - Question

Hello all,

My wife (a yugo citizen) is traveling back to Serbia&Montenegro for a
vacation - we keep hearing about needing to obtain a "transit visa"
for countries she will be connecting out of - even though she will not
be leaving the airport. Can you shed any light on this??

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Depending thru which city she is travelling. If she goes thru Frankfurt,
probably no visa needed, as there is only one airport. If she flies thru
London and needs to switch airports (Heathrow to Gatwick), then yes. Same
for Paris - there might be a switch from Charles de Gaulle to Orly or vice
versa.

The requirement can exist even if you aren't switching airports. I have an
African friend who was detained for a day in Brussels, changing planes en
route from Africa to USA, because he arrived without a Belgian transit visa.

Depends on the country that she will be transiting in AND any residence
permit she may have for a Western country. For instance see:
http://www.german-embassy.org.uk/air...nsit_visa.html

http://www.austria.or.jp/service/vis...lations_e.html

http://www.italyemb.org/AirportTransitVisa.htm

http://www.accueil-sfo.org/english/visa/en_vs_nv7.html

http://www.denmark.org.uk/visa_requirements.htm

The good news is that Serbia and Montenegro is not on the list of countries
/ nationalities that may need an airport transit visa. (according to these
websites)
