In the 1950's, tens of thousands of people sent small bags of rice to
President Eisenhower convincing him not to attack China. Its a new millenium
with the same problems, rice is for suckers, clams are the choice of a new
generation about to head off to war. We urge you the public to grab a box,
grab some clams, and send them to George Bush to let him know that "hey this
is a box of clams, deal with this Chimpy."
Cutting right to the chase, what we really want here is for you to send some
clams to:
President George Bush

You guys are a bright lot, aren't you?
I can't wait until PETA gets wind of your idea to use animals for your
protest.

Clam facts:
- Clams were responsible for two US casualties during World War II. During
the D-Day invasion of Normandy, a German nefelweber rocket struck a pool of
clams near some advancing US troops. The resulting explosion injured two
soldiers, but the shrapnel pulled from their wounds turned out to be
clamshell fragments!
- The indigenous Timbisha people of what is now the US Pacific Northwest
used to use clam shells as blades due to their strength and the natural
sharp edges formed when they are manipulated. The Timbisha had a ceremony
known as "Paye T'lembasa", or "Wrath of Uncounted Clams" that they performed
before battle to ensure the strength of their clamshell weapons.
- The African nation of Djibouti has named the Asian Clam as their National
Fish, even though mollusks are not technically fish, due to that clam's
value as a source of both food and supplies for local art projects.
- "Tabby" is a concrete and clamshell mixture used throughout many coastal
areas in the world today. The style originated in the Mediterranean and is
so strong that it can withstand cannon fire.
- In Polynesian societies, clamshells were a type of currency in
pre-colonial times. In some modern-day Polynesian societies, clam shells
have retained their role as a currency, but they are only accepted as
payments for a bride or prostitute.
- Worldwide, over 450 people per year die from clam-related food poisoning.
This makes clams more lethal than alligators, tigers, and hippos combined!
- In Renaissance Italy, clams symbolized romance due to their appearance as
the union of two halves. Clams appear in paintings by almost every
Renaissance Master.
- Technically speaking, clams to not have a "top" and "bottom" shell, but
rather a "left" and "right" shell.
- The word "Clam" is derived from a Middle English word that was also used
to describe bondage gear! "

FWIW, I think PETA only concerns itself with vertebrates. (Clams and
cockroaches must fend for themselves.) That's a thought - perhaps we
should send him boxes of roaches, instead of clams?

Reminds me of the Iraq/Iran war, where French made Iraqi jets and
helicopters, attacked the electric plants of Iran (incidentally made
with French parts and technology.) Nice sweet deal eh?
Me sees the same situation, but under a different label this time.
Talk about seeing the mote in your brother's eye....

I Cultivate a White Rose
By Jose Marti, Cuban Poet, Patriot, and Philosopher.
I cultivate a white rose
In July as in January
For the sincere friend
Who gives me his hand frankly.
And for the cruel person who tears out
the heart with which I live,
I cultivate neither nettles nor thorns;
I cultivate a white rose.
Cultivo Una Rosa Blanca
Cultivo una rosa blanca
en junio como enero
para el amigo sincero
que me da su mano franca.
Y para el cruel que me arranca
el corazon con que vivo,
cardo ni ortiga cultivo,
cultivo una rosa blanca.

In Latin, the word "clam" means:
clam - Adv. , [secretly, in secret]; 'esse', [to remain unknown].
Prep. with acc. or abl., [unknown to, without the knowledge of].
and other words starting with "clam-":
clamator -oris m. [a shouter , speaker].
clamito -are [to cry aloud , shout violently].
clamo -are [to call , shout, cry aloud]; with object, [to call to or
upon] a person, [to shout] something; sometimes [to proclaim,
declare].
clamor -oris m. [a loud shouting , cry]; poet., of lifeless things,
[echo, reverberation].
clamosus -a -um act. , [noisy, clamorous]; pass., [filled with noise]
"Shell" we "oyster up" and seek the "pearl" of wisdom therein? :-)
