Default Check luggage at Gatwick? Also Gatwick Express question

My wife and I have a long daytime layover at Gatwick and will take the
Gatwick Express to London for a few hours. We would like to leave our
carryon bags in the airport if possible. I realize that coin lockers are
history. Is there a room where small bags can be checked for a few hours?

At what London station does the Gatwick Express go?

Forgot to mention: the question refers to North Terminal.

Yes, they have a left luggage facility- certainly in the south terminal,
and perhaps the north too. (the website for the airport is down-
probably temporary maintenance.) It's around 5 UKP a bag however, and I
wouldn't be surprised if that has gone up recently!

Victoria.

I just replied in another post. The website I normally use for Gatwick
(www.baa.co.uk/gatwick) seems to be down temporarily, but I remembered
the name of the left luggage company!

http://www.excess-baggage.co.uk/

They do indeed have a facility at the north terminal, open 0600-2200.
(The one at the south terminal is 24 hour.) Also, the price is now UKP
5.50 per bag.

Don't know about left luggage, but the Gatwick express leaves from South
treminal and goes to London Victoria - takes 30 mins.

You can easily get from North to South terminal - there is a shuttle train
every few minutes.

Ask for a day return ticket on the train - cheaper than two singles.

Southern Rail also goes to Victoria - much cheaper but takes longer as it's
a stopping service

And Thameslink to Blackfriars and St Pauls, depends where in London you want
to go. Thameslink and Southern are cheaper than Gatwick Express and slower
(but not much and if you're going to the city Thameslink would be faster
because you'd save the underground trip from Victoria.

As far as left luggage facilitices at North Terminal are concerned I found
this on www.baa.com

The airport's own website is at www.baa.com.

The Gatwick Express isn't the only train, indeed there is or was a
plan to withdraw it.Southern Trains take the same route (to London
Victoria) and Thameslink trains go further east to London Bridge, and
on through the historic City. Depending on what you had time to do,
this could be a useful alternative (journey times are about 30 minutes
in either case).

You could. for example, pick up one of the hop-on hop-off tour buses
outside London Bridge station, or walk along the South Bank from
London Bridge towards the Tower, or in the other direction to Bankside
for the Globe, Tate Modern and the new footbridge over to St Pauls. Or
you could get the Jubilee Line from London Bridge to Waterloo for the
London Eye, and a boat trip from one of the piers near there.

Choose Victoria, on the other hand, if you prefer to get nearer the
West End shops and/or a walk in St James's Park or around the Palace
and towards Westminster. I would assume there's a hop-on hop-off
tourist bus route from Victoria too.
