Hello! I'm travelling to Paris with a friend in the middle of March. We
don't have too much money. Where could we find a cheap double room for 9
nights? (cheap double room = less than 50 euros/night). We are students and
under 26 years old, so a youth or student hostel could be also ok. We don't
have credit card so it would be an advantage if we could book in advance by
sending a mail or by telephone (no credit card number). Thanks in advance

You might consider Etap Hotel (http://www.etaphotel.com), Formule 1 hotel
(http://www.hotelformule1.com) or may be Villages Hotel
(http://www.villages-hotel.com)

They offer basic room which have 2 beds, 1 TV and shower (except F1, if I
remember correctly, their have showers in the hallway, not in the room).
Each on those 3 hotels have very nice, and very clean rooms. Not to much
space, but you be happy to have a room for less than 50euros(some are less
than 35euros). Try to find a hotel not directly in Paris, it will be
cheaper.

The last time we went to Paris we stayed at the Hotel Le Lionceau, 22 Rue
Daguerre 75014 PARIS Tel +33 1 43.22.53.53, fax +33 1 44.10.72.49, totally
bog standard little place with no charm at all BUT:

1) Clean and safe.
2) Cheap (around EUR 40 per room per night if I remember correctly).
3) Nice neighborhood: great street market in rue Daguerre itself (ask to be
put in the other building round the corner on rue Boulard if you don't want
the early morning noise !); the Catacombs on place Denfert-Rochereau 5
minutes walk away; the Observatoire de Paris just a few minutes further to
the north.
4) Convenient - subway lines 4 & 6 plus the RER all meet at
Denfert-Rochereau station, 5 minutes walk from the hotel. Very quick to get
into the centre of Paris (15 mins or so).

It suited us perfectly !

But the two of you could spend a significant number of euros a day in
transit fares getting to Paris and back.

Thanks very much for the info! The hotel looks good and cheap and it's
really near the place we are going. One more question... do you know the
email adress of the hotel? (I've been browsing the net and I haven't been
able to find it). Or do you know if there is problems for getting a room
when we arrive there? Thanks in advance.
By the way, the current rate for a double room is 45?, breakfast not
included

In Paris _intra muros_, yes. If you need to go into the suburbs, it's a
different matter.

Yes, but I thought about the close suburbs.
