Cheap flights but what about the parking

Just comparing a two week trip from Yorkshire to Tuscany via Ryanair to Pisa
or ferry to Zeebrugge.(I think the ferry will win)
The airfares may be £40 each way, but if I'm reading it right its £150 to
park for a fortnight at Stansted.
Is there something similar to the fare scanning site for looking for car
parking?

Dont forget to figure in the tolls on the Autostrada and French
motorways and the cost of an overnight stop or two.
I made the trip from East Anglia to Tuscany last year and
along with the Mont Blanc toll I probably shelled out around
£80 in tolls alone.

One option when it comes to Stansted is booking a room overnight
at the Hilton which then gives you 15 days free parking for
around £99

Surely there's a nearby train station where you could park either at the
station, or close to it, for a fraction of the price? For example, at
Manchester airport, you could argue there's no point paying for parking,
when you could park for free on the street a few train stops away...

tbh if you really want to save some money then finding car parking shouldn't
be too difficult. Find a town which has a train station which will take you
to the airport. Then drive for a bit to a residential area where there are
no parking restrictions, park up, and then walk.
Not exactly a nice thing to do, but it's legal ;-)

I think it bothers people more when commuters do it, as they
increasingly do.

And if you don't want to leave your car for 2 weeks on the street, a station
car park can be cheaper.
eg: 2 weeks at SOU will set you back over GBP100. The station car park
(Closer than long term parking to the terminal) will cost 2 weekly parking
seasons at about GBP30 each.

150 pounds seems high, purple parking seems to be offering 14 days (13
nights) for about 119 in July and if I remember well, they are not the
cheapest. I think booking direct from the Stanstead web site (correct car
park of course - long term) worked out cheaper last time I checked.
If your car needs a service, book it in to a dealer near the airport, get
your service and agree with them you'll pick it up in 2 weeks!
Alternatively leave the car and get a coach via
http://www.nationalexpress.com/desti...s/airports.cfm
assuming you live near one of their pickup points.
You could always fly from Doncaster with ThomsonFly.com

To my mind, the point of paying for airport parking is that it is a lot more
secure than leaving the car on the street for a fortnight.

How attractive that is will depend on how much luggage you want to take with
you.

There is that, and for peace of mind, maybe it's worth it. However, the
chances are the car will be fine, especially if it's in a residential
neighbourhood. People here leave their cars outside their houses when
they're away after all.

I've seen one for Gatwick, but it wouldn't help for Stansted - there
are no alternative off-airport car parks for it to scan for. There's
the odd farm that will take a few cars, but they don't advertise as
they may well be on dodgy ground planning-wise. One I used a few years
ago were very cagey about where they actually stored the cars - it
certainly wasn't on site.
Long term parking in July (quote from BAA web site) comes out at £105
for 15 days. A whole 20p a day off for booking in advance...
Try also ABC holiday extras - but it will probably come up with the
same deal.
The best deal I had was at a B&B at 50p a night - but I've heard the
owner has retired so no point in giving details.
The ferry has the added advantage of no hire car the far end.

Yes, precisely. Stansted is out in the country and a relatively new airport.
Modern planning requirements would make it very hard to set up competing car
parks.

I found a hotel near Dunmow a few years back, where I could stay the night
before, leave the car, get transported to the airport, and still have change
out of what I would have paid at the airport.
