If it can work for the airlines why not with Buses? An internet booking
service that looks promising. http://www.megabus.com
Routes also include Edinburgh to Glasgow and other Scottish towns. £1
each way ! You must be joking.

The snag is that you're allowed only one bag, and it shouldn't be much
bigger than a laptop bag. And it's FROM £1 each way; the prices are
variable, like with the no frills airlines.

IMHO such a rule will make it completely useless for its target market.
However it actually says "a lap top bag or brief case or a small to
medium sized hold-all" I don't know what others think but by my
estimation a medium sized holdall is about six times the size of
a briefcase.
In any case I don't see why they make an issue with the size of the bag
as long as it sits with meit's my problem. AIUI they are using standard
buses: with bench seats and enough room for a pretty large bag
underneath.

Good point.
The booking conditions actually state:
"Due to limited capacity passengers are advised that megabus.com can only
accept one piece of luggage per passenger. This should be no bigger than a
lap top bag or brief case or a small to medium sized hold-all."
So I guess it is the description of a 'small to medium sized hold-all'
that is going to be the subject of much debate between the driver and the
passenger. I can see some tears.

And crossed legs as the busses will not have toilet facilities.
