uncomfortable.. took about as long to get from waterloo to Ashford (about 40
miles) as it did to get from Calais to Paris (a good 150 or so miles)!!..

Got the Paris visite metro pass to get around, after being told by the
travel agent that's all that's available to us English people, but it gave
good discounts into monuments (ones we didn't go in, still had to queue for
3 hours to get up the Eiffel tower ,

This year were going for 7 nights, so i've been trying to find something
better than the visite card.. as this is only 5 day max.. and was looking
very expensive for the full 5 zones (want to go eurodisney a few times,
getting cheap tickets here, just need to get there, and that was expensive
for an individual ticket last year).. plus we'd need another 3 day card.. or
a few carnets for airport to the hotel, and back on the first and last day..
plus getting around on the day in-between that the 5 day card doesn't
cover),

So it really looks like the carte orange is better for us, only thing being
we arrive on Saturday.. so will need prolly mobilis cards for sat and sun..
until the carte orange is valid.. but we'd still save money over the Paris
visite card,

I've read in many places that the ticket sellers would rather sell you a
visite pass than a carte orange.. for obvious reasons (double the price),
and usually say it's only for locals, is there anything we can say to 'make'
them give us the id portion of the card?, or can we even get that sent to us
in advance?, as i've read you can buy the carte orange ticket portion at the
vending machines, so we just need the actual ID portion from the window.

I can't find any mention of the carte orange, or even mobilis cards on the
ratp web site.. just the Paris visite!, i take it they are still available?,
i've read about the new smart card being issued to all locals to replace the
yearly cards, and this year the students get the smart cards.. replacing the
old ID cards,
Does anyone know if we need the electronic ID portion of the card for a
weekly carte orange yet?, and if so, is that likely to cost/be harder for a
non local to get.. as it holds all sorts of data about the owner.. so they
can track where you go,

Again, the rapt site makes no mention (in English at least' of the
electronic cards.. even tho we've seen them in use),

Anyone been to Paris in the past month able to comment on this??

In all fairness, the English trackage used by Eurostar is ordinary
trackage, and meant to be a temporary usage until the high speed track
is completed.

The Carte Orange is only covered on the pages in French.

I obtained a carte orange + ID with no problem a few months ago, and I was
obviously a foreigner. I didn't get a smart card, but rather a... dumb card.

I bought the carte orange without a hitch. There was no hassling me to
get the other touristy passes. And I very obviously am not a local
there.

I have been refused a Mobilis ticket - only for French residents. It
is fair enough as the Mobilis and Carte Orange are subsideised by tax
payers so visitors should pay the rate for visitors i.e. people who do
not pay taxes in France.

I am sick of being refused things like child and senior entree fees etc
for my family members because the US is not part of the EU and there is
no reciprocity when in fact the US accords such benefits to EU members
-- and everyone else without discrimination. Shaft the tourists is a
good way to alienate tourists.

I have been buying Carte Orange passes at least twice a year since 1997 at
various Metro stations. I last bought one three months ago. I also buy
Mobilis passes for a day here and there upon arriving in Paris a day or two
before the next Monday-Sunday Carte Orange becomes available. I last bought
one in October. I am a mid-western American and I look like one; Nike
sneakers, white sox, blue-jeans and all. You don't have to be a Parisian to
buy a Carte Orange or Mobilis.

Thank you for that.. was getting worried there, originally was going to get
the Paris visite cards.. like last year.. but luckily the travel agent only
sold 3 day passes... at the price of the 5 day passes bought in Paris!!!,

i was getting bothered about the costs, especially as we never used any of
the so called special offers associated with the paris visite,

The carte orange works out a lot cheaper, (£40 for 2 of them, for 5
zones..and 7 days, against about £65 for just 5 days with the visite card),

Just the 2 days before the carte orange becomes valid to sort out, Saturday
we arrive at about half 2 in the afternoon, and i now know the ticket from
CDG airport to paris includes the metro.. so £8 each for that trip.. but the
mobilis card for 5 zones is only another 3 quid, makes sense to get that, as
we will most defiantly stay out until about 10pm after checking in at the
hotel.. using the metro to get around,
I wish i could find more out about the young persons card.. as that's only
about £3 for a days ticket on the Saturday.. 5 zones,
Vicky should have no probs getting it.. she has 5 more years before she's
too old for it.. but I'll have 1 day , I'd like to get one tho' just as
something that's the first, and last young persons discount ticket I'll ever
buy.. god, that brings it home doesn't it ,

Gary- Very important that you know this: A Mobilis pass is not valid for
transportation to or from CDG or Orly airports even if it is a zone 1-5
pass. The Carte Orange or Paris Visite zone 1-5 passes are valid but not
the Mobilis.
You confuse me with your monetary amounts. You seem to be mixing prices in
pounds and euros. For example, the price of a RER ticket with Metro
connection from CDG is 8.00 euros not 8 pounds. The 7 day zone 1-5 Carte
Orange costs 27.65 euros. I would not buy anything but a zone 1-2 Carte
Orange pass costing 13.75 euros for 7 days. This pass is good throughout
the entire Metro system and RER within Paris proper. Use this pass to it's
outward limits and buy an RER ticket from there to Disney. Unless you are
going to make a lot of trips to Disney it is not worth buying the zone 1-5

information for all tickets, carnets, passes and the persons under 26 pass
called "Jeunes" which is valid only Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

Ahhh, thanks for mentioning that, re-plan time again, looks like a 2 or 3
zone mobilis card on the Sunday then, and maybe the same on the Saturday..
once i get into Paris with a single ticket.

Oops, that's what i've done, sorry, i was just reeling them off from the top
of my head.. been looking at so many tickets today, i've got prices coming
out me ears,

Gonna do 2 days to Disney, it was a hassle last year to buy the tickets the
day before we decided to go, (not realizing rer tickets are valid for a
month, so could have got the any day), and with the park entry tickets, it
was well over £50, a bit of a shock,

This time were getting the park entry tickets from a Disney store in
England.. 2 quid cheaper than the gate prices.. it all helps , 2 lots so
we can do the Disney park one day.. when the suns out hopefully, and then
have a day in the studios part of the park on another day,
with the 5 zone card i'm hoping to wake up to bright sun, and just decide to
go to Disney, if its the same the next day.. we'll do it again ,
it took us half an hour to get the tickets to Disney last year, so i just
want simplicity.. buy one travel card that covers everything (may go out to
Versailles one day too, and the hotel is at the very edge of zone 2, so we'd
easily go into at least zone 3 just looking for food , and have the Disney
passes before we go, i just wish i could get the carte orange sorted before
we go.
