US travelers have long been advised to buy TSA approved locks that can be
opened with special keys supposedly only the TSA people have. This is not a
new problem and everyone should know about it by now.

Yes they can. Just buy a TSA-approved lock. They are only about $7.

Yes, but most of us have until now been carrying such
vlaubles as cameras in our hand luggage to avoid tempting
the TSA people!

I'll have to consider that but the extra mileage doesn't appeal. I must
check out the restrictions, if any, in the various Paris airports.
