Memorable flight, LHR-FRA with Lufthansa.

Lightly loaded A320 ( weekend flight ) spent about 12 secs on the tarmac between
hitting the throttles and an absence of wheel rumble. I *love* timing them.

On arrival, the taxi speed would best be described as 'interesting' ! Certainly quick
! Reckon FRA has some long taxiways, you can get up a good speed on them for sure.

Well, if that is company policy, it is a little puzzling. Taxiing very fast puts a
lot of unnecessary stress on the airplane, it'd be interesting to know where
maintenance costs would overrule fuel savings. Pretty quickly WRT taxi I'd imagine.

I've heard Lufthansa employs not a few ex-Luftwaffe pilots. Maybe they're just trying
to re-live past fun ?

I was always under the impression that it wasn't them having the fun. Seriously,
maybe Jerry or Ian can shed some light on the taxiing question.

Ummmm - who was having the fun then ? Seriously, I reckon that A320 was taxiing at
around 40-50 mph at FRA. I seem to recall grabbing my seat as we cornered. The flight
wasn't even late - dead on time in fact.

Ummmmm, the Brits. Didn't we shoot a large percentage of them down?

That's the sort of speed I'd expect to hear about damage occuring, particularly in
corners. The lateral load at that speed would be huge, if my basic, simple, scrawny
understanding is correct.

Hmmm - they did slow down for corners !
