Rabies is very rare in the UK, and though they can carry it, it's not
really a problem.

From what I've read, somewhat harder than getting rid of rats, as they're
cleverer and live in harder to reach places.

It happened to me in the Boston area once. We had to get professional
exterminators in...

And pigeons are bloody ugly. I get upset when Oscar calls them palomas,
as that's a rather nice word, or maybe I'm thinking about the song about
palomas blancas...

I've never had plants dug up by squirrels, nor the house invaded. Dogs on the
other hand ...

Have them shit on the breakfast table, and see how friendly you feel
about them. I have to wipe pigeon shit of the terrace wall every few
days, and we don't have a particularly bad problem with them!

Once when a bird shat on my father's head a friend of ours (a Scot)
said, "aren't you glad cows can't fly?"

They must find better pickings elsewhere. They used to harvest all my
beans just before they were ready to pick. Likewise sweet corn.

I had a friend with a squirrel infestation and after trying all sorts
of home remedies, mostly Hav-a-heart traps, they called in an expert.
They had to leave the house for a few days, along with their domestic
pets, while he did his job. I don't know what he did, but it got rid
of them.
