Barcelona to Cannes
I will be spending a weekend in Barcelona at the end of June before
joining my friends for a week in Cannes. Any suggestions on things to
do while in Barcelona? I'm open to anything.
Also, do you recommend taking the train to Cannes (11 hours) from
Barcelona. Or is there another quicker way.

Easyjet certainly fly out of Barca... not sure what the nearest
airport in France would be though...

In Barcelona enjoy The Ramblas (a great street in a city filled with great
streets), Parc Guell, Gaudi's Cathredral.

I suppose you could take www.virginexpress.com from BCN to NCE. Nice is only
about 20 miles from Cannes. Checked the website real quick and the flight
from BCN to NCE goes thru Brussels and the one-way fare on Jun 30th is 86
Euros. However, it leaves BCN at 9:45 am but does not arrive in Nice till
about 5pm and so there must be a long layover in Brussels. Then from Nice,
I'm not sure how you would get to Cannes. Anyway, another alternative though
I'm not sure if it's better than taking that 11-hour train ride.

There are regular coaches to Cannes from Nice airport. The express takes
about 45min.

Nearest French airport would be Nice (NCE). There is no discount carrier I
know of operating between those two airports, unfortunately. However, check
fares on published carriers - you might be surprised - or take an indirect
flight on a budget carrier (see www.aerfares.net)

Some checking has revealed that you could get from BCN to NCE via Geneva,
Switzerland (GVA) on Easyjet for as little as ?70 around the end of June.
You have a few hours to kill in Geneva but it's a nice town and the airport
is very close to the city - you could get an all day ticket to take you into
town on the train or bus, have a look around and come back for CHF6 (about
?4). However, it will take about 10 hours including the wait at GVA.
Connections via the UK are also possible but just as long and more
expensive.
The train connection is the "Catalan Talgo" from BCN to Montpellier: 0845
departure, 1316 arrival, price ?42, followed by train 4656 leaving at 1507,
arriving Cannes 1845. Can't get a price for this one because the SNCF
website is so bad but you should be able to buy a through ticket in BCN.

No big deal, but there are a couple of trains that shave it down to 10
hours; 2 hour layover in Montpelier. If resigned to a train, I would do an
overnighter, the change of trains in Cerebere with a 2 some hour layover
