Default avoiding red light districts in Vienna

I would like to know which are the most notorious streets to avoid
them, obviously.

i am in the process of choosing a hotel which ideally is located near
a station which is served by the airport & is in the sub $100 range.i
will be travelling with my girlfriend.i know i cant expect a view of
the danube from my room at that price but i would like to avoid staying
in a Rue Pigalle.

thanks,
K

There are loads of good hotels in Vienna and I think you would be
unlucky to pick a dodgy area . Three weeks ago we were at
http://www.hotelstadthalle.at/main.aspx may be a bit above your
target, stay 7 days pay for 6 though. They also have a pension a few
minutes up the raod.
A few minutes walk from the west bahnhof and u bahn and tram lines. In
a very quite side street with an even quiter courtyard, the quitest
city hotel we have ever been at ( part of the minotel chain)
With the first rate transport system you can easily stay a bit out of
the central area get aroud easily.

I have two suggestions, both very close to Westbahnhof, which is
itself just a train & U-Bahn ride away from the airport. First is the
Hotel Fuerstenhof, just across the street from Westbahnhof. Second
is the Ibis Hotel Wien Mariahilf, just a short walk down the street
from Westbahnhof. Both hotels have rooms for less than 86 euros
or so. http://www.hotel-fuerstenhof.at/ http://www.ibishotel.com/

You are going on vacation and you biggest concern is not ending up in a red
light district???

Look for hotels that don't rent rooms by the hour.

Having spent 5 days out and about , using trams , u bahn and walking
till late at night with my wife , I missed all signs of it. Never gave
it a thought, or never felt unsafe for a minute.
Sure being a large city with plenty of imigrants form the balkans etc
it must exist if you look hard enough.

Vienna has a red light district? I must have missed that one.

Come on, Vienna is about as safe as anywhere in the western world.
Don't worry too much.

Just what are you reading?

any means.

I didn't bump into any area like that in Vienna, and I tend to notice
that kind of the thing! We stayed at an Etap, close to the Gasometer
subway station. About 40 euro a night- great value IMO.

I am sorry but the river Danube is not going through Vienna..
So it will be impossible for you to have a hotel window on the Danube

the Blau Donau is just a legend..

The Gürtel especially the bits where the U6 runs.
And a bit near the Praterstern.

They're only allowed out on the streets after dusk - except in certain
summer months I think after 8pm.

Did you not read the flood reports? The whole river system fell down
to Serbia.

The Gasometer are used to be pretty run down, when they were just ruined
gasometers. Now it's becoming fairly fashionable.

It does, actually. The bit of "river" you see from the centre is the Danube
- it's a straightened, artificial section of the river. The original river
course, know as the "Old Danube" (Alte Donau) remains only as a few lakes
and backwaters with islands and nudist beaches.
