Australian serial killer hits Florida, Europe may be next

With all the recent rain, many Central Floridians are preparing for a
mosquito explosion.
More mosquitoes means more repellent and protective clothes, but one man
said he may be able to save us from those pesky mosquitoes.
He's invented a new contraption called Mosquito Free that kills mosquitoes
by using the natural scent of humans for bait, WESH 2 News reported.
"With all the problems with the West Nile virus and the other diseases,
people are dead scared," said Edgewater resident Harold Haynes, who uses the
new mosquito-fighting weapon.
Peter Scott created the mosquito trap. He sold thousands of the backyard
bug-killing contraptions in Australia. Now, he's trying to market his
product in Central Florida.
"We had people in Australia that haven¹t been able to sit outside and enjoy
their backyard areas, and now they can," Scott said.
The super brew that goes into the trap is a blend of non-toxic chemicals,
and to a mosquito, it smells like humans.
"This brew is designed totally on the human odor to attract the mosquito
into the chamber," Scott said.
Scott said his invention not only works, but also costs hundreds of dollars
less than similar devices.
"It's the most inexpensive trap on the world market," Scott said.
Although the trap can't kill every mosquito, Haynes said it would allow him
to spend a lot more time outside on his back patio without fear of being
attacked.

Seminole County is also gearing up for the expected mosquito explosion by
having trucks out at night spraying for mosquitoes.
Officials are monitoring the mosquito population with eight traps set up in
different parts of the county. They haven't seen a spike in the number of
bugs just yet.
Biologists said we can all do our part to stop mosquitoes from breeding and
spreading disease.
"Clean out your backyards. Make sure you don't have any standing water
around that's breeding them. Most of your problems could come from your
gutters and birdbaths. Protect yourself with products containing Deet," said
biologist Amy Burgeon.
Spraying for mosquitoes will take place at sunset and run through midnight
most nights. Residents should do their best to avoid the chemical mist.
The Health Department said that if you're suffering from a lingering
headache or stiff neck, you should see a doctor.
