ATM in Amsterdam

I will be in Amsterdam very soon and am concerned about if I can use my debit
card. Debating bringing all cash and exchanging it (not my preference) or just
bringing a small amount to exchange and use my debit to get additional cash as
needed. Can this be done? How does the echange work, etc?
Thanks for helping me through my ignorance,

You don't say what country you're from or what sort of debit card you have.
Anyway, my UK-issued Visa/Delta debit card works fine in Dutch ATMs.

Using your debit card usually ends up being the cheapest way to get cash.
Just stick it in the machine and go. The instructions will be in English.
You'll get a better exchange rate than you could with cash or travelers
checks. The ATM will not charge you any fee. There are machines in the
airport you can use while waiting for your bags to arrive (and many more
machines outside in the public area).
The one thing you have to watch out for is that your own bank might charge
you a fee (some do, some don't) for international transactions. If it does,
you will probably want to minimize the fees by doing a small number of large
withdrawals rather than frequent small withdrawals.

Lot's of ATMs in Amsterdam, but you don't say where you are coming
from. I understand there is some issue with pin numbers, depending on
which bank you are with. I have never had a problem, and have used UK,
Australian, and Italian cards there. Probably best to ask your bank.
Cash is without doubt the least secure method, and you will pay a heap
in commision etc, but I suspect you already knew that.

You also have to watch out for the increasing number of independent
operators of ATMs, who do make a charge for using their ATMs.
GWK machines charge Euro2.5 for example.

If your bank card is compatible for the usual systems you should have no problem.
Check the symbols on the back of your card or check with your bank to make sure it
is compatible. Also check maximum withdrawal limits.
Get enough Euros to get through your first day or two and then use your bank card.
You will bay a few dollars per transaction, but you can minimize that by
withdrawing larger sums less often. You will get a much better exchange rate than
if exchanging cash.
