Default Apartments for rent in Florence, Italy

New to the group...

Looking for recommendations on apartments in Florence for January. I will
be staying there for a week at the end of January '07 and will be returning
January '08 for a more long term rental.

There are a lot of companies out there with rentals - and the price varies
dramatically. Would love a personal recommendation if anyone has rented in
Florence before!

Many thanks,

Kristin

In 2005, we stayed at one of the 21 apartments -- specifically the
Michaelangelo -- within the Palazzo dei Ciompi, and we can recommend it
very enthusiastically. The location was great -- close enough to the
major tourist attractions to make access easy but far enough away to be
in a neighborhood with real residents and, therefore, needed stores and
services.

Specifically, it's less than two blocks east of a supermarket, probably
Standa, for buying basics. And it's about two blocks west of the
Sant'Ambrogio market. Ristorante Cibreo -- and more importantly for your
wallet, Trattoria Cibreo -- are your neighborhood restaurants. A lovely
pizzeria, Il Pizzaiuolo is located there, too. Supposedly there are
washing machines in the building, but I had read cricitisms of them so
we did hand laundry or used the laundry/dry cleaners outside the
Sant'Ambrogio market.

The apartment was immaculately clean and the management was easy to deal
with. We don't travel with a laptop, so we used an internet cafe a
couple of blocks away on Via Ghibellina.

On our flight home, we met the owner of an apartment within blocks of
the Palazzo dei Ciompi on Via Ghibellina. His place sounded lovely, too.
For someone staying long term, you might want to check out his place
(second URL below) because his place offered an in-apartment washer and
dryer.
