Anyone have any suggestions on where to visit in Europe just after
Christmas into the new year. I would love to bring in the new year
somewhere in Europe. I don't mind the harsh weather as I'm Canadian.
I'm looking for a fun place to party and see some sights for a solid
6/7 nights. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Cheers,

You can get what you're looking for in just about any of the major
European cities. A friend and I went to London one year just after
Christmas for a week and we had a fantastic time. The weather wasn't any
worse that here at home too.

I think my picks would have to include Madrid and Lisbon. Weather should be
relatively mild in either city and being off-season, the prices should be
reasonable. Both cities offer an endless supply of nightlife and
gastronomic delights. Madrid doesn't even begin to wake up until after
10:00 PM and some of the more trendy clubs don't even open until after 2:00
AM. It is a place where you can party all night if you have the stamina.

Have spent New Years Eve in both Venice and Rome, both were great, I
felt Venice was more exciting, but each to their own. By my standards
it was cold, 1-2C, but what the hell, both were great nights!

What about the lovely views and the new year's folklore of the Amalfi Coast,
in Italy?

However, the reputation of Edinburgh for its New Year festivities is legendary and getting decent accommodation even now may be hard to find.
You'll be looking for a hotel or guest house within walking distance of the festivities in Princes Street.
Perhaps an email to the Tourist Office will assist you.
Edinburgh's got the sights too. The castle, St. Giles' Cathedral, the Zoo, the Royal Mile, whisky tours, etc.
My husband & I were in Edinburgh last Christmas. We left before NY so we can't comment personally on Hogmanay/NY celebrations.

I suggest Spain !! The best weather in Europe (but in January is cold
too).
You can select between Barcelona, Madrid, Seville, Granada, Córdoba
...
You talked about party? ... didn't you hear .. "Spain is different"
... greats parties.
Sights? have you heard about ... Gaudi's Sagrada Familia in
Barcelona? Granada's Alhambra? Arabian Mezquita in Cordoba? Prado,
Reina Sofia and Thyssen museums in Madrid?
I strongly recommend to you that your choice should be Spain.
If you have any questions about the accommodations in whichever the
city you want, please let me know ([email protected]) and I'll send to
you the best web sites about it.
