Both are available (not only in France but pretty well anywhere) but i
think both are prescription-only. Both are generic, as I recall, so
shouldn't be expensive

You should take the things you need on a regular basis with you. You may
find equivalents in France, but you may not, or they may require a
prescription. I had a cold in Paris last year and wasn't able to get
anything equivalent to a 12-hour pill that I normally take. I probably err
on the "be prepared" side, but if you have a problem in the middle of the
night, do you REALLY want to have to go out and search for an all night
pharmacy?

You can get Claritine, the other I'm not sure...but normally you need a
prescription.
Now as a foreigner I'd think you could talk with a pharmacien about it and
you should get a box of Claritine all right...bring your home prescription
anyway

I also err on the side of caution! Consequently, many items in my
traveling "medicine chest" are seldom used, but there have been times I
was grateful for my own foresight.

It's not what you asked, but... I do remember seeing Zyrtec
being sold OTC the last few times I was in France.
