Me and my friends had a great time when we stayed at the downtown hostel.
Nice bar.. dope smoking room.. TV DVD room.. Free internet.. Very close to
the train station.

Main thing was that it had a really nice atmosphere.

Having said all that it is probably slightly more expensive than other
hostels.

look here for coffeeshops, http://www.coffeeshop.freeuk.com/
my favorite coffeeshop was the rookies. stay away from la canna the
weed had a moldy taste and lots of immature seeds, plus there is a 3
euro cover charge.

you can look here for more info. it's not well organized but....

Hi,

http://www.boomchicago.nl/ is a 2nd city style improv group that has
this truly wonderful free little magazine you'll see all over amsterdam,
useful map on the back with current local recommendations.... also
online... but still grab a copy when you see them.

akia

jack's site doesn't really deal with the coffeeshop budget travel scene
but does have good tourist type walks and stuff... but then jack is a
grandfather.

If you go to Amsterdam and are interested in the Red Light District you
ought to mail [email protected] and ask for the guide their guide
to the city. They have some great walking tour and insights that will
change your trip completely. To put it short the theme oriented travel
guides from redlightplanet.net are covering light districts and
associated categories of entertainment around and the world. Aim of the
guides is to provide hedonists with the same value guidance as Lonely
Planet offers independent travellers. Great reading for everybody.
