Americans unwelcome in Europe?

I'm planning a trip to Europe, taking in Germany, Czech Republic,
Switzerland Italy and France and maybe Spain if we have enough time.
But is it true that Americans get a harsh deal in some countries? I'm a bit
worried because I hear such weird stories about how the war's made us real
unpopular across there. Sometimes I don't know what to believe? I mean
that whole thing ended already, so what's the big deal?
Anyway I also want to ask your opinion about something. Is it possible to
get good maryjane in Germany? Like, could we stock up for our trip there
and not have to worry? I hear you guys don't have border checks anymore.

Sounds great!

By and large, no. Stupid ones do, ignorant ones do, rude ones do. Anyone
that vocally expresses support for Bush et al is asking for trouble almost
anywhere on the planet at the moment.

Yes, it has, but the animosity is mostly directed at the administration, and
those who support it.

Happens to us all.

WTF??? What planet are you on? Are you talking about the ultra-expensive war
that Bush is doing his best to assure us is making the free world safer? The
same one which was supposed to be over months ago, but has descended into a
predictably messy unwinable guerilla war? The same one where the goals was
disarming Saddam of completely imagined WMDs?

Border checks do exist to an extent, depending on where you are going. I
would suggest you NEVER do anything as stupid as taking weed across a border
anywhere, ever. Get it in the country if you have to. France is strict on
weed possession too, so be warned. Go to Holland or Denmark if you want to
smoke openly.

Only losers that loudly express support for dubya.
> I mean that whole thing ended already, so what's the big deal?
I can only assume that you never watch TV or look at websites
like BBC News. Americans, not to mention lots of Iraqi civilians
and UN diplomats, are killed every day. Are you really so dense
that you believed dubya's claim that the war is over?
> Is it possible to get good maryjane in Germany?
Now I get it. You are just a pencil-dick troll.

Funny thing is... I don't believe this person is a troll. I've seen several of these comments (war is over et al.) here and in private conversations with a few Americans.
I think he/she actually believes the war is near an end.
No thanks to the media, of course.
P.S. Why you would want to risk crossing a border with marijuana is beyond me!

Not in Europe.

Weird stories are told primarily by people who could not locate Europe
on a map.
> Sometimes I don't know what to believe?
Rule 1: Everything the media says is a dramatic exaggeration, when it
isn't actually false.
Rule 2: The less people time have spent abroad, the more they will talk
like the media when discussing foreign countries (that is, with much
exaggeration and misinformation).

There isn't any big deal. Nobody cares.

A media worker posts to demon local, usually nonsense about sigs: does this
mean his posts are a dramatic exaggeration, if not actually false?

Just learn the sentences "I'm so ashamed to be only an American. I have
nothing to do with that Bush guy. I certainly didn't vote for him. In
fact, I am an undercover Arab terrorist." in any European language, use
them as often as possible and you will be fine.

Certainly a good way to learn mor about the German prosecution,
jurisdiction and penal system.
> Like, could we stock up for our trip there and not have to worry?
Depends on what you are usually worrying about. At least, the chances to
get a simple but heated room and three meals a day for free would be good.
> I hear you guys don't have border checks anymore.
Certainly partly true. They didn't abolish police force completely,
though.

That's as naive a POV as the opposite.
