Default All Those Backpackers In Rome...

Ugh! Backpackers are the absolute *worst* kind of tourists - cheap, dirty,
and invasive...just like cockroaches.

The Romans are going to let out a HUGE sigh of relief when all this popish
nonsense is over...

The Scottish Tourist Board did a survey a couple of years ago about
how much different categories of tourist put into the Scottish
economy. Turned out that backpackers spent, on average, more than
most apparently more upmarket types like golfers (probably because
they stayed here longer).

We sure don't discourage them here. Big bucks.

About what? The backpackers- yes, that's a disgraceful slight against
travellers that know how to pack. I suggest a remedy of 597 follow-up
posts.

As for popish nonsense- well, that's a fair assessment- hardly worthy of
a flamewar.

Time to focus on today's activities in Windsor and Aintree.

Windsor? What the heck's going on there?

Maybe something to do with the Grand National being delayed a little
bit?

I'm putting bets on Clan Royal and Strong Resolve.

I was on the Wirral and in Liverpool yesterday- absolutely _freezing_
too. Merseyrail were on strike (as they are today)- picking historically
some of their busiest days of the year to take a couple of days off
work... :(

Still, I get the impression most people took the day off work anyway.
Certainly the person picking me up at the station Friday morning said it
was one of the easiest drives they'd had- and there were loads of free
buses carting people off to Aintree.

Ah, the Grand National. Scene at Lime Street Station last night- lots of
drunken smartly dressed people. Still, Friday night as normal- apart
from the 'smartly dressed!' :)
