Default Air Berlin Feedback

I am thinking of using Air Berlin for a London to Spain (Mallorca) jaunt. I
know nothing about them. Can anyone fill me in their operation, as a whole
and on London routings, in particular. Should I just go with Easyjet, whom I
get the impression most Europeans prefer over Ryan.

Thanks,

I flew them from Muenster Osnabrueck to Mallorca and back from Mallorca via
Nuernberg to Muenster Osnabrueck last year. It is a fine airline. On these
routes they gave us a decent meal and free drinks. For the same price, I'd
go with them and not with Easyjet.

I flew with them from Stansted to Dusseldorf and back last year.
Absolutely no complaints with any aspect of their service.

Münster, Osnabrück and Nürnberg.

Hey, Groenroos, I have better things to do than look up the codes for
characters that I rarely use. And the way I spelled the names of these
cities is perfectly acceptable.

I don't want to be a nitpicker but for instance Nürnberg should be spelled
as Nuremberg. For the other two city names the "ue" spelling will do.
However, just plain "u" is much more commonly used and simple. The Estonian
word jäääärve shouldn't be spelled as jaeaeaeaerve. And my name renders in
dull languages like in Enklantti (inklis) as Gronroos.

Nuremberg is the English and French name of the city. If you wish to
write the German name, but are unable to use umlauts for some reason,
"Nuernberg" is acceptable.

Strictly speaking that would be considered a misspelling in German, you
should use either ü or ue. Foreigners tend to consider the dots as funny
decorations with no purpose, so they are exempted. :)

Air Berlin is now Germany's #2 airline after Lufthansa in terms of
passenger count. Unlike the other cheapo airlines, they offer free
onboard snacks and numbered seat boarding.

No. Not with German. Nuernberg is the correct form in German if umlauts are
not possible.
e.g. in URLs:
www.nuernberg.de (Nürnberg/Nuremberg)
www.muenchen.de (München/Munich)
www.koeln.de (Köln/Cologne)
and esp. with smaller cities which don't have an English name variant
www.tuebingen.de (Tübingen)
www.ruedesheim.de (Rüdesheim)

or with search enginge like e.g. Google
just check for "Nuernberg" (over 2 mio hits) and "Nurnberg" (just 0,2 mio
hits).

or with online timtables like the DB timetable
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/english.html
try e.g. "Koln" instead of "Koeln" - won't work

I haven't flown with Lufthansa for a decades, the last time I did they
offered zero service for a big price. Already in the 1970s one was
offered the choice of a stale bread roll in a paper bag collected in
the departure lounge or nothing.
What was the name of the German internal airline that was part owned
by a brewery and flew three engined Russian Yaks from Munich to
Saarbrucken (edit in your own umlauts)? During the flight I was served
with 3 cheese rolls in a paper bag and as many tins of beer as I could
manage.

I think he used the British spelling, remember that Vlissingen is
spelt Flushing in UK.
