It seems only fair, given how he doesn't make a move where the
Middle East is concerned unless he has their full approval ;-)

I don't know about the Germans, but W could just slip some cash to the
French.. it worked for Saddam.

I wonder how much notice TB takes.
The US certainly has influence, regardelss. They can't dictate policies,
but they can pressurise and hint.

No, but they were based there and had a couple of useful bases, if mainly
just stores and fuel. The US sees it as a good place to stabilise** easily
by getting it in the EU.

** Insert any work or phrase that means play along with the US.

Hi folks,

I am planning a trip to Tashkent this november. My friends tell me
that Uzbekistan being new to the EU, they haven't started using the
euro currency yet. Is this true? Do I need to bring euros or the local
uzbeki currency?

You only need to bring Euros if your ATM card has a 5 digit PIN.

You can use Euros at most of the opium shops, but
I heard of at least one near the Afghani border
that only takes the Uzbek som.

That's right, remember to ask your bank to change your PIN to Cyrillic numbers.

Preferably a number that in the cyrillic letters equivalent spells a
memorable Uzbekistan word
