Default Aer Lingus fare to Dublin--Should I just jump on this?

My girlfriend and I are travelling to Italy this fall. Aer Lingus is
starting service from San Francisco to Dublin, for $400 round-trip. We
have no objection to flying into Dublin, hanging out, and flying down
to Rome. I haven't done much international travelling, but I know that
fares fluctuate and great deals can be had if you are patient. However,
my gut tells me that it doesn't get any cheaper than this. Any input?
Thanks,
Pete

Sounds like a good price to me.
You could take a further Aer Lingus flight down to Italy, or take a chance
with Ryanair, who are not always cheaper than Aer Lingus out of Dublin.

I was playing around with www.kayak.com last night and found
some incredibly low Air India and Aer Lingus New York-London
fares early next year.

Try flights out of New York and Washington to major European
capitals. The competition is fiercer, and you can probably
pick up reasonably cheap flight from SFO to either of them.

Having said that, Dublin is a pleasant stopover and that
price looks good. Make sure it includes all taxes. I had an
Aer Lingus £3 flight from LHR to DUB that was over £40 after
taxes and charges.

Thanks Alan. Actually, it turns out that we will be stopping in
London on the way to Italy, and I did run across the "0.01 Euro" fare,
plus the 31 Euro fuel charge. Still, I'll take it!

Thanks for the response, Trish. Turns out we will be stopping in London
before Rome, and that the Aer Lingus and Ryan Air fares from Dublin to
London are obscenely cheap, even after the surcharges.
