Are there (m)any B&Bs in Rome, particularly in the Spanish Steps area? If so, can
anyone tell me what the average rate per night is for a couple? How can I get a
listing, if such a thing exists? Thanks.

100s if not 1000s of B&Bs in Rome. I am paying 110-130EUR for 2 different B&B in
sept. Do a google search on rome B&B or hotels. Hint: a private bath does not mean
that it is always inside the room. look for en-suite bath.

Most hotels in Italy serve breakfast, if you consider that a B&B. The definition of
B&B seems to vary a lot by country. In the US, it is usually a small expensive inn,
while in the UK it is often indistinguishable from a small hotel with less in the way
of services, and is often quite inexpensive.
In Italy the concept is rather new.

I just got back from a wonderful honeymoon in Italy, and we stayed at the Hotel
Pensione Parlamento (Via delle Convertite, 5 ) in Rome. It's central to the Spanish
Steps, Trevi Fountain, and Piazza del Popolo. We paid $130 a night for a room with
private bath, satellite TV, and air conditioning that worked very well. This included
tax and breakfast. Most of the employees spoke pretty good English. The room was
clean and more than adequate for our needs. They are very responsive to email
([email protected]), and we made all of our arrangements that way. They did
require first night's deposit in advance by cashier's check.
We found a great restaurant a couple blocks away called the Ristorante la
Matricianella (Via del Leone, 4; 06-6832100) about a half block west of Piazza di San
Lorenzo. I would especially recommend the baked eggplant as a second course and the
profiteroles for dessert. We got there right after they opened at 8:00 and got a
table, but it was pretty full by 9:00. Full meal including a nice bottle of wine but
not antipasti cost us only 60 euro. There's also a great gelateria on the piazza.
