Gimme a break. First off, oil was higher under RICHARD NIXON. In fact
he was the guy that started the 55 mph speed limit to curb demand. Jimmy
Carter didn't preside over the 70's oil shock, at least not the first one.

Perhaps you have an ancient version of Java installed.

Then try Bombay. There nearly everyone is under 25 and a professional
taxi driver. I have never been so scared in my life.

Perhaps what makes things scarier is every taxi has a shrine covered
in fresh flowers to the driver's favourite deity. He seems to trust
that thing. It a bit like a mini-casket in the center of the cab.

I live in a very strange part of the world, Victoria BC, where if you
stand by the side of the road, cars will come to a stop to let you
cross. Merges are always done 1:1 precisely.

The price of oil also affects your heating bill and electric bill. It
affects air travel, shipping, plastics, agro-chemicals,
petro-chemicals...

Netscape 4.79/linux under Slackware 10.0. Yeah, I know it's old, but I
like the way its mail/news works better than in the latest Mozilla. I
figure anybody who puts up a website hoping to convince people that his
is The One True Way ought to write his code so that EVERYBODY, including
lynx-users, can read it.

morning.

Yes. At least to the baker aroung the corner to get some breakfast. By
bicycle, that is.

Per US gallon? Per UK gallon? Per barrel?

It's always so difficult with the funny units of uncivilized countries.

Today, prices range from about U$2 to U$2.40 per gallon averaging
around U$2.18.

    > Will you be driving anywhere this spring or summer?

Yes. Probably more than five thousand miles on The Road by September.

Since Mount Saint Helens just blew, might take a trip to Seattle
(about two thousand miles). Will go to Phoenix via Las Vegas in June
(about two thousand miles).

Might go to Atlanta in May but will fly. If not Atlanta, Fresno, only
five hundred miles. Might go to Prague in August. If so, might drive
around the Eastern USA a bit before or after.

Even if gas hits U$3 a gallon here, it'll still be less than what's
paid in many other countries. I think I paid $5 a gallon in England a
few years ago.

Here it is very cheap! I pay only 1.10 EUR per litre, dirtcheap.

The correct price should be 2.20 EUR per litre.

Italy: EUR 1,17/Liter, which makes USD 5,98/Gallon...

The sudden realization that, now, EUR 30 is a bit less than 3/4 of my gas
tank shocked me a bit.

UK average price is about $7.50 a gallon at the moment. The imperial
gallon is slightly larger (roughly 1.2 US gallons) so that would make the
price of a US gallon about $6.25.
