Here in Germany:
To buy a house not even close for 50000, for renting in a large city
area you can get a 1 bedroom apartment for the 200-300 range low if in
a bad part of town, near busy roads or train tracks.
Food will cost you about the same as in Italy but it is alot cheaper
to eat out in Germany.
Could you live for 10 years on it. Yes but going on public dole and
living and eating very cheaply.

I'm selling a house in France, where houses tend to be cheaper than in the
UK, for 360,000 Euro. You may need to revise your goals if you have a 50,000
Euro budget.

Tom Peel prattled on about:
> Why should he want to buy a house?
Because he said that was one of his criteria!

In the US, you'd have $68,000.
In New York City, maybe 2 years.
In Pittsburgh, 4 years.
In rural Alabama, 6 years+.
Enjoy your stay.

BTW: what bank did you rob?
