[OT] Crossing the US - Canada border

Sorry for the Off-topic, but I've seen plenty of Americans and
Canadians in this ng and I'm sure someone can help me on that.
In two weeks I will be leaving for the US and Canada, and I will be
spending the weekend at Vancouver. There is a friend I would like to
visit in a town near Seattle that mapquest tells me it's within a
2-hour drive from Vancouver.
The question is, how much time should I allow for the border crossing?
I won't have much time as on Sunday I will be taking a flight to LAX
from Vancouver again.
Thanks in advance,
J.

This doesn't answer your question, but if you have time do consider
taking the ferry from Victoria to Seattle - it's a stunning trip. As I
recall, you can go direct city-to-city or via Bainbridge Island.

It depends a lot on the time, the day of the week and holiday weekends. I
usually cross in the Niagara area where crossing time is usually just a
few minutes. About an hour ago I heard a news report that the crossing
time is about a half hour, but this is a typically a very busy weekend
with Canada Day on July 1 and Independence Day on July 4.

crossing at the peace arch is about 45 mins drive south of vancouver
outside of rush hour. if you get there before, say, 1030 am you should
be fine. well under an hour wait and probably closer to 15 mins, but
if you try to do it between 11 and 6, you'll be waiting up toward an
hour and even more if it's a weekend... what is the town in
washington?

that's a city essentially connected to north seattle (sort of). you're
probably looking at a little over 2 hours from downtown to downtown.
there's not much in everett really, you might want to get them to meet
you halfway in bellingham for some good cheap mexican food at casa que
pasa!! ;-) bellingham is a nice little town with a nice drive nearby
(chuckanut drive), an excellent book store (henderson's), a couple
cafes, a small, but nicely preserved "old town" at the south end...
but if you're going all the way to everett you should get them to take
you into seattle...

Incorrect. There is no ferry service connecting Bainbridge Island
to Victoria.
City-to-city service connects Victoria's Inner Harbour in the city
centre to Elliott Bay in downtown Seattle. This serice is a passenger-
only hydrofoil.

Everett is bigger than just a "town" - it's a small city, and
home to one of Boeing's airplane-assembly plants.
If your friend has transport, it might make sense for this friend
to meet you in Bellingham, which is much closer to the US/Canada
border.

But she's in Vancouver, not in Victoria. And she would have to come
to Seattle first to get to Bainbridge. Anyway, the friends are in
Everett, so there's no sense coming all the way into Seattle.
Especially if it's a day like today, with a Mariners' game mid
afternoon and the southbound viaduct shut down because of a rolled
truck.
