Default Advice about Counties Manukau, South Auckland please!

Hi Everyone,

I am a UK doctor interested in a permanent job which has been
advertised in Counties Manukau District Health Board (Manukau Super
Clinic/Surgery Centre)South Auckland, New Zealand. My wife is in love
with Australasia and I imagine the quality of life must be much better
than that in the UK
and a better place to bring up young kids which is one of my main
reasons for considering the post.

Can anyone tell me what life in South Auckland is really like?
I'd really like to hear both the good and bad things about the place.
Whats the weather like, crime rates, social/cultural activities, local
politics, standard of healthcare, socioeconomic makeup, atmosphere
etc.

Thanks for any advice

Hmm lets see, without prejudise, South Auckland has a larger Pacific
Islander population than the Pacific Islands. There are many different
communities in South Auckland, not all of course Pacific Islanders, there
are many Solalis, Asians, Mediterainians and of course many Indigionous New
Zealanders.
The unemployment rate in South Auckland I think is amoung the highest in NZ,
weather you ask, Not at all bad, suffers from a little wind as both East and
West coasts are closeish to Auckland, plenty of great things to do in
Auckland, atmosphere varies from the sublime to the downright scarey. South
Auckland is the only place Ive ever visited where they had Graffiti on the
inside of shops with a mall!

My advise is spend a few pounds, take ya wife there for a couple of weeks,
try Wellington (colder but better in many ways) and maybe some other
regional hospitals.

THeres nothing like experience I say, dont take anys word but your own,
South Auckland has many many good areas (its been a while since I was there)
and some not so good areas. Take a trip, have a look for yourself. Exchgange
rate still good from Pounds to NZD.

Last time I was in NZ - I went to the Manukau Mall (it's on the way from
Auckland International to Hamilton by car!) to buy a Vodafone sim card.
Frankly, I was worried about the safety of my rental car while it was parked
there. Young men lounging about everywhere. No threatening behaviour, but
not a good feel to the place!

What countries isnt you wife in love with.
On the US Canada group she was in love with Canada now she is in love with
Australasia.
The rest of the post was identical.
Perhaps you are genuine and perhaps you are a spammer!
Australia and New Zealand are a lot different to each other.
Australasia is a term rarely used these days, but when it is it is more
commonly referring to Australia and its dependencies in the Pacific.
New Zealand usually goes by that name and I would suggest they would be
quite happy with it being called New Zealand.

i'm genuine and my wife does love both Canada and Australia.

i'm from the UK, currently working for a year in Australia. Having seen
the fantastic lifestyle available in Perth, Western Australia my wife
and I have come to the realisation that so much more is on offer (in
terms of quality of life) outside of the UK than in it.

Consequently I am not keen to return there permanently and have been
looking at other options ie modern English speaking countries which =
US, Oz, Canada, NZ. Jobs are available in Prince George, Canada and
South Auckland NZ, and possibly Bribane, Australia - so i am trying to
find out about these places in order to decide which ones to visit. I
only have 2 weeks of annual leave available in the next year and so
need to be selective in my choices.

Anyway, from all the emails and replies I've received it sounds like
Prince George is one of the worst places in the world, and South
Auckland I am still considering and may be worth a visit?

thanks

Ok I believe you!
We get a lot of trolls on the newsgroups who place
identical mesages on the different groups.
