budget thailand
i'm so bored allready with university that I want to start to plan my
holidays. i'd like to go to ko samui for 3 weeks or so, but I'm a
absolute novice to travelling so i've got a couple of basic questions.
if anybody feels like answering i'd really appreciate it.
a) is july/august/september even a good time of the year to be
visiting thailand?
b) what price should I be looking for for the return plane ticket to
bangkok (from eg london)
c) what's a reasonable budget to reserve for the trip to ko samui and
a roof above my head for three weeks? food and drink?
d) or should I be looking to go to a different place/island, also
considering my limited budget
i'm a student, so i'd be content with fairly basic accomodation
i realise these may be tedious questions, but it's some basic
knowledge i desperately need.

It's not the best, weather wise, especially for a beach holiday. Don't let
that stop you though. But earlier (including June) and later (Starting
half-October) is better.

You should be looking for the cheapest one. ;-)

Ko Samui is getting a bit more expensive then some of the next-door islands
like Ko Pha-Ngan and Ko Tao. Those islands are equally nice, attract a younger
crowd and prices are cheaper. Say 200 baht/night accommodation and food
anohter 150 or so? It depends a lot where and what you eat and especially if
you like to drink & party.

Yes. Krabi is a nice area too.

Antoni,
In case you haven`t already heard of it - buy a guide book called, "The
Lonely Planet" - there`ll be a Thailand edition. You`ll find it`ll save you
a lot of effort.
Have a good holiday,
Andrew Austin.

not really...it was raining a lot those months this year.
b) what price should I be looking for for the return plane ticket to

if u'r from london, i would suggest gulf air, it's the cheapest one.
c) what's a reasonable budget to reserve for the trip to ko samui and a roof above my head for three weeks? food and drink?
3 weeks...i suck at maths but let just say...about $10 a day.
d) or should I be looking to go to a different place/island, also
considering my limited budget.
u definitely should look for another island...ko samui is getting more expensive each day and the place is spoilt! i live in thailand myself so i guess i'm allowed to say that

Re: budget thailand
August is rainy season, but in Thailand the rain doesn't usually last for long and it is quite warm so I find that you still go on with your activities anyway. I have not been to Samui, but have been to Phuket 6 times at various times of the year. That time of the year is "Off Season", so accommodation is cheaper. You should be able to pick up Back Packers rooms for around $5/night or less. The cheapest way foodwise is to eat the local food, it is so much cheaper and is absolutely delicious. If you plan on lounging around on your hols, around $10-15/day should be fine. If you are planning on doing tours etc, it will be a little more expensive. Most tours are at around $50+ for the day.

As I know july/august/september is the best time to visit Koh Samui as
this is a peak season of the island. You can prove it by cheking the
room rate from the travel agent, it will display the most expensive
rate on this period.
Good luck,
