Kilimanjaro treks - ZARA travel vs Transkibo
Hi everyone. I was looking at making a trip to kili in late Sept and I was
looking closely at ZARA travels and Transkibo -
http://www.transkibo.com/hotels/index.htm
http://www.zaratravel.com/
Does anyone have personal experience with both? I was looking at the Rongai
route and theres a difference of almost 200CAD$ so all things being equal,
and working on a student budget, I was hoping to go with the cheaper one.
Or if anyone else knows of a good company dealing with kili tours involving
the Rongai route, please reply.
thank you.

Only experience with Zara. I used them for a Kili trip 4 years ago using the
Machame route. Everything worked very smoothly. I had booked through a UK
company who in turn used Zara. Guide was nice - told us everything we needed
to know but kept in the background. He answered all questions we may have
had. Very good service along the way - cup of tea with the wakeup call etc.
Stayed at Springlands in Moshi - nothing special but that was not I was
there for. Can recommend!

Re: Kilimanjaro treks - ZARA travel vs Transkibo
I went with Trans-Kibo in 1998. I showed up without any plans made in
advance, but knowing good value. They're well-established and
conveniently located in the YMCA. The owner's name is Thomas Lymo. I
recommend John Meela as a guide.

Re: Kilimanjaro treks - ZARA travel vs Transkibo
Thanks for the replies guys. I was looking at Transkibo too because of the
cheaper rates.
I definitely will get in touch with them for further details.

Ditto. Also, by showing up and claiming to be poor students, it was
possible to haggle significantly on the price.
Or you can find a guide and haggle with him directly. The guide will
organise the porters, food, permits etc.
BTW, does the YMCA still have the long-empty swimming pool?
