I have cashed US cashiers cheques and personal cheques in South
Africa, and I suspect that postal orders will be no different.
However, I am a SA citizen, with a business banking account, credit
card accounts, a home loan, several vehicles financed through a bank,
tax records etc. Even then the money took about 7 days to become
available to me.
If the person presenting the postal order/cheque is not a resident or
citizen, things could be very different.
Are you sending money to someone in SA? If so, there are easier ways
to do this.
Regards,
Marc

If the recipient has a bank account in SA, the easiest way is to do a
telegraphic transfer from your bank in the States to the recipients
bank in SA.
If your recipient doesn't have a bank account, the safest way is
probably to use Western Union, however, they do charge some
commission.

Marc
PS. I hope the recipient is someone you know, not a scam operator ;-)
