Most of the large retailers, such as Worten, Box etc have a real problem hiring & keeping qualified staff.
I have had some recent positive experiences with Radio Popular & Fnac. Recently for white goods I have found it better to use smaller shops such as Tien21 franchisors. For IT kit, I tend to buy from online companies such as Onbit.pt, Mbit.pt etc & get delivered by ChronicPost to a local collection point.. I have such a loathing of Amazon stealing business's that I do try my best to use local shops. I want a high street to go to in the future . Much as it would be far far easier for me to get things online. I want to see the product ,inspect it, check how it works etc. My OH agrees with you though :( I see a bleak future of white vans clogging up our streets ( like the UK) and empty shopping malls and high streets full of betting shops and Estate Agents. ( like the UK ) Was that a deliberate pun... ChronicPost? |

No!
Based on experience with their home deliveries. Much easier to get them to deliver in a pick-up point in your nearest town. Often it's held there & you have a week to pick it up. Saves having to wait at home! |

Re: WORTONS
Glad to hear that you got your B..... mixer GeniB. We have had our Braun mixer since 1971 and it is still going strong.
Worten in Olhão is very small compared to the Portimão branch so we don't have the staff problem you experienced. I shop around online a lot and have found Worten, FNAC, Box and Radio Popular etc to be more expensive lately compared to the likes of Amazon, even allowing for delivery charges. I do miss the 2 year warranty though. |
Re: WORTONS
I like Worten - I got a couple of dehumidifiers from their Lagos shop and the male assistant insisted on carrying both to my car and putting them straight into the boot.
Maybe the bigger stores are too busy for help like that. |
Re: WORTONS
Excellent service from Worten Lagos. Purchased a Samsung fridge freezer. Assistant said they do price match without me asking and reduced the price by 150€!! Delivered next day and took old fridge away foc. |

I can only assume your local Wortens had employed a load of British shop assistants.

If that happened in the UK it would be more a sign of the store had concessions and the staff didn't work for the store but for the concession (ie Phillips)
Yes this store does have an over abundance of concession staff ( as I found out ) It really was annoying, as they outnumbered the stores own staff by three to one. It was like being in a sci-fi film where the humans you tried to talk to/get help from, turned out to be alien robots:lol: Anyhoo, I have got over my frustrated 'strop' and Worton's have redeemed themselves. My 'B' mixer is sitting in the kitchen cupboard along with its myriad fascinating attachments .My now dead 30+ yrs old one had a mincer and a liquidiser. This one I swear can knit!. I think OH expects great things from it, after all it lights up the contents of its huge steel bowl. I think it will be awhile before it see's the light of day again. |
