WORTONS
Anyone else find this the worst shop for service on the planet?
YD has almost come to blows over returning a faulty appliance there in the past Yesterday OH and I had the ultimate experience of 'can't be a***d to serve you ... service Our faithful appliances decided to commit suicide over Christmas... as they do My wonderful Kenwood Chef of well over 30 yrs old ,gave a cough and a splutter and died mid beat on Boxing Day Hence we found ourselves in Portimao yesterday looking at a splendid new machine. ( well not the real reason, that was to go to Vodafone, as my brand new phone died yesterday morning. Well no it didn't, it turned out they just turned the signal off, as you do. It pinged into life again as I walked into the shop: Turned out they had had a problem ! One wasted journey ) I digress. We had quickly sourced the purchase , now all we needed to do was haul the wacking great box to the till. A search revealed nothing but tiny baskets. No trolley. It was much too big for us to carry to the till, even with two of us ( what the h**l was in there ? ) The shop...which is very large... was empty. I walked to the other side of the shop and approached a very smart young man in a black get up, with one of those neck tapes and identity cards around his neck. 'No' he couldn't help me he said, pointing to the name on the card. 'Philips Electrics' He steered me back in the direction I had come and told me to look for two women in red. I found a woman in black with a similar neck tape and card which read 'Huewei' and 'NO' she couldn't help me either. I had to wait for the ONE woman in red who was dealing with a customer. We watched them chat amiable for over 15 minutes, then said 'customer' walked out of the shop with nothing. Woman in red was then just about to whizz past us ,when we literally caught her sleeve. She looked at us as if we were aliens. Then down at her hands ,her pen had sprung a leak ( that still happens ? ) Ink all over her fingers. She ran off to the back of the shop saying she would be just a minute. Fifteen minutes later and we had lost the will to live . We walked out of the still empty shop with the several so called 'assistants' waiting for non existent customers. I almost made it to the car, when I turned and went back and told the woman in black. ( who was still just standing by her desk) That the company had lost a valuable sale as her 'woman in red' had failed to return after fifteen minutes. and maybe therefore her employer might want to re-think his stupid policy of having assistants who didn't assist. when I said 'valuable' I mean nearly 800 euro's. Anyone else had the same customer service at Worton's ? and can they recommend anywhere else where we might find someone interested in actually selling us something |
Re: WORTONS
Never had a problem with Worten in Olhão, although sometimes they get busy and only have 2 assistants. Where is your store?

Re: WORTONS
Funny you should mention that. We had the same problem at Wortons trying to buy a specific laptop so off we went to Staples. Same problem. Both shops had the laptop on display but none in boxes and the only staff were the cashiers. Got it off Amazon much cheaper.

Re: WORTONS
Must have spent what seems like a fortune in Wortons, never had a problem.
Even had 3 members of staff dealing with a problem with a new tv. If you really want poor service , try Currys in the UK, all they are interested in is selling upgrades and expensive insurance. |
Re: WORTONS
just the same experience a week ago.I knew exactly what I wanted and found it boxed ready for sale at Guia shopping worten,
But couldnt find a free assistant... asked an assistant, chatting to someone about nothing, if they could help me buy the item (an esquentador), answer no. Find another assistant,,,,,,there weren`t any. So left the shop, went home and thought I would try to find it elsewhere. Found it online at DHE lisbon, took the plunge, paid for it on line and it was delivered 5 days later. And saved €60 in the process. In future I will use Worten as a showroom and just buy online , |
Re: WORTONS
What I find amusing is that Genib usually bangs on about how great Portugal is and there is nothing that could possibly go wrong with life there.

Re: WORTONS
As a postscript ( and in answer to Bill ) Our Worton's is in Portimao and is the second biggest store in Portugal ( after the one in the Columbo shopping centre in Lisbon) I know all this because OH went back yesterday determined to buy me the B*****y mixer I went in for the day before. This time the shop was heaving with customers, but lo... as a man, he caught the attention of another male ,an assistant who sped to his side ( ok I am exaggerating ) He stood in the doorway and flung his cloak away to reveal the mark of Zoro....
Actually ,an assistant spotted him and walked over to ask if he could help him. I got my mixer in less than 20 minutes, brought to my car and placed reverently in the boot. OH told him about the situation the day before. He said that indeed there were less staff during the week, many worked for specific in house stores like Philips ,or Huewei . A mad idea. 'Much better to come at the weekend' he said .Another mad idea. But heh ho. |

I can only assume your local Wortens had employed a load of British shop assistants.

Re: WORTONS
Most of the large retailers, such as Worten, Box etc have a real problem hiring & keeping qualified staff.
I have had some recent positive experiences with Radio Popular & Fnac. Recently for white goods I have found it better to use smaller shops such as Tien21 franchisors. For IT kit, I tend to buy from online companies such as Onbit.pt, Mbit.pt etc & get delivered by ChronicPost to a local collection point.. |
