Where to live in Portugal for nature?
Hi all,
Thanks to anyone taking the time to read this and offer opinions!
I'm looking to move to Portugal with my girlfriend - we want to buy a plot of land in a fairly rural area (near a village/town) with mountainous views, and build a small home there. We like greenery, but will be looking to escape the rain and dark winters that England offers, so sunny weather (not too hot) would be ideal.
We will spend September-April in Portugal, and probably come back to the UK for the summer, so good winter weather is a must.
We like the look of Madeira, and absolutely loved the Azores when we visited, but worry that land will be too expensive.
Our top needs are:
1. Quiet, nature filled location with nice views
2. Warm winter weather
3. (Bonus - near the sea!)
Would be super grateful for any advice you guys can offer!

The Algarve ticks a your boxes, away from the resort it is wild countryside it's home of the lynx breeding program.
Impressive birdlife, today we saw hares, have seen wild boar, fixes, kongoose, etc. . Numerous types of reptiles
Dolphins, whales off the coast.
Those who come for just sea and sun do not know what they are missing..

What prices per m2 were you given ? Was this for rustic (agricultural) land without building permission ? It is unlikely that prices will be any lower on the mainland. Beware of agents telling you planning permission will be easy/quick to obtain.
