Our MEO Internet connection dropped last night around 9.30 pm
After a long and monotonous Bot conversation, we managed to speak with a human, who carried out some checks from his end and concluded that the fault was at our end. He told us that a technician would call sometime Tuesday,
Surprisingly, said technician appeared on the doorstep at 8.30 this morning ! He had already found the problem.
Apparently, thieves had felled a telegraph pole, then they cut the cable and stole it. Un-bloody-believable !!!

I have managed, I think to get rid of MEO, after 19 years.
They told me they could cancel on 6 December.
Then rang me, last Thursday, to say they can cancel it now.
I would very very upset, I said, amongst other things......
So hopefully, we'll see if it works /not works on Friday.

I still have the original agreement, with Portugal Telecom.
But now we can't get any English tv, we have got Starlink and other means. We can still watch Portuguese tv, but my internet is going to be a shed load more efficient.
I hope.
That's the only reason we're getting rid of them. Since we moved to the middle of nowhere, our internet connection is dire. Was okay when we on-line, in Fuzeta.

My first foray was with NOS, which started well, but performance deteriorated over time, so I changed to Vodafone, which has been far better (though slightly more expensive). The other advantage of mobile internet is that it is not tied to one location.... so I can use it when I'm away from home. The downside is that it is designed as a "temporary" solution, so reloading the same SIM month after month may result in deteriorating performance..... they suggest buying a new SIM each time (which costs no more, but is a faff if you don't have access to a Vodafone shop.... the nearest to me is a good 50 miles away!

SIM deteriorating in performance month after month from reloading !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a absolute rubbish.

Voda told me this themselves... and I see no reason why they should want to sell physical SIMs rather than top-ups.
I just ensure I always have a spare SIM to hand, rather than rushing off to buy one.

So, Fairplay to MEO, they sorted out the problems in less than a week, three new poles erected, along with associated cabling etc.
They also provided us with free unlimited use of a mobile wi- fi router for the duration of the downtime and kept us informed of progress throughout.
Can,t really fault the service, given the circumstances. Nice one MEO !

Well, MEO are being rather good about it all.
Service terminated about midday on 6 December, had a couple of letters, saying I can return the old equipment by 6 January, free of charge.
Otherwise they'll charge me a shedload.
Now why would they want 9 year old routers, a phone that only worked once etc, back? And charge me the original price for it, if not returned.
No worries, will be done this week.

I went to the effort of complying and they were not actully interested in the equipment at all. I had to demand a receipt to say I had offered the equipment.
I retained the equipment and never heard anything further - it seemed a waste of time, fuel and effort.
I suggest you tell them it is available for collection or you are willing to post it (at their expense)
