Re: Weekend away
If in that area then Sanlucar De Barrameda is worth a visit, do the boat trip to the Doyana Nature reserve on the other side of the river.
Cadiz is good but only if you can find the right bit of it (the old town) - the new area is just kms of blocks of hi rise flats. |
Re: Weekend away
Would appreciate anymore suggestions for this, particularly in Portugal. 3hours or less drive something to see have a meal and a drink stay the night. Will probably go to Evora but was wondering if any other towns were nice.
Carmona in Spain was nice |

Re: Weekend away
Gibraltar staying in La Liniar (Spain). Duty frees are worth the extra little bit of travel ! So are the English pubs and bars and English atmosphere - if you're missing home - maybe you're not !
https://www.google.pt/maps/dir/Gibra...9!2d37.1335906 There's an inexpensive toll road in Spain and the bridges that you cross over are increadible at Saville. The road is very well signposted to get to Gib. and the Spanish border town of La Liniar is worth dropping in on and staying in overnight - rather than in Gib. It's easy to get across the border (I've done it a few times from Spain). (I was lucky enough to experience both towns via our sailing boat). http://www.spanish-fiestas.com/cadiz/la-linea/ http://www.gibraltar.com/sightseeing/sightseeing.html http://www.itravelnet.com/photograph...togallery.html http://www.gibraltarinformation.com/...Gibraltar.html Well worth a visit - highly recommended. |
Re: Weekend away
due to circumstances I've been to Gibraltar lots and I know people want to go while they are in the area but. I wouldn't recommend it on a trip from the algarve but that's just my opinion. You can get cheap cigarettes but only one carton not sure about the alcohol. It's expensive to park or stay in la linea next to the border. Gibraltar is a personal taste I wouldn't spend a holiday there but everyone's different. Morrisons is good for expats .
Royal wok Chinese restaurant and Patagonia and others are good in la Linea. Had a good night in the bus mans social club there too. You can get the train to Rhonda or Granada after a short taxi ride to the station. It is worth a visit but not on a drive from the Algarve. Sorry for my negative reply. |
Re: Weekend away
Got me stumped about where to go then - because I'm up north.
Thought about popping across the water? Some other ideas for you: The best way to travel from Lisbon Portugal to Casablanca - Morocco Forum - TripAdvisor Travel from Portugal to Morocco | Europe Forum | Fodor's Travel Talk Forums The train is also a great way to get around - we use the Portuguese trains many times as you can then enjoy the scenary at the same time. Have a great weekend wherever you decide. (I love Gib.) - thankfully we're not all the same as it would be too full up otherwise ! |
