I moaned at the wife for 2 or 3 years to go to Tomar, she said it was nothing special and unfortunatly when we got there she was able to say "I told you!"

Don't get me wrong it is nice and no doubt a nice place to live, I think i was just expecting more! Regarding the motorway, there were major roadworks going on around Tomar at the time so we took the national road north to Coimbra!(lovely atmosphere in the car that day!:demon:)

The Alcazar is a must see, small but perfectly formed.

The Camera Obscura in the Alcazar is also a must.

See the bottom of the page in this link :-

F1 as in Jenson Button? Can't see Jerez on the calendar, where did you hear that?

During the podium celebrations of the 1997 race, Jerez's Mayor Pedro Pacheco disrupted the podium celebrations by presenting a trophy that was supposed to be presented by a dignitary from Daimler-Benz. This incident resulted in the track being temporarily banned from hosting a Grand Prix.[1] It has never hosted another Grand Prix, but remains one of the most popular venues for winter testing.

I was there :)

According to Bernie it will never host another GP, also according to Bernie he is innocent :D

Also with regards to testing I believe Pirelli do not like the track because the surface conditions are not representative of anywhere else. There were reports that the testing this year could move to the new Algarve circuit, however that has not happened.

I would also recommend Cadiz, great place to visit lots of history if that's an interest to you!

Re: Weekend away

They used the Algarve circuita few years ago but it co incided with the wettest winter in the Algarve for years and the teams did not get the development time and results they were looking for.
The track itself is bankrupt , no surprise there.
If testing does return you would hear the cheers as far away as Gib.

Not far from our place is a huge villa on a equally massive plot under construction, local scuttlebut is that the owner is Schuie let all hope that he eventually recovers and is able to use it.

I would go to Jerez and Cadiz. We went to Evora a couple of years ago and perhaps because it rained the whole time we were there I don't really have any good memories. But we really enjoyed our time in Jerez and Cadiz.
