Default Treatment for exterior patio terracotta tiles?

Hi,
We have terracotta paving patios (we bought them from a guy who makes them down Palmela way) and dont know what to put on them to protect them
Inside we use the linseed oil/refined turps mix followed by wax
But what do people use outside
They have only ever been treated with linseed oil/refined turps mix, but need a new protection
We are thinking of sealant
But is this a good idea / pros & cons?
And if good which one / type?
Cheers

I've had great success with products made by HQ on marble, granite and travertine. Never used it on terracotta but would assume that, like travertine, terracotta is a natural, porous material so you should get positive results. Leroy's carry lots of them in store. Clean, then seal, wipe the excess off, pretty straightforward.
