Tourist licence and water bills
Hi,
Has anyone else seen this? I've been hit with a commercial rate water bill from Tavira Verde because I have a tourist licence (Alojamento Local). Has anyone else incurred this and, if so, is there any way around it?
Thanks all

Out of interest, how does the commercial rate compare to residential rate? If you are using the property as AL then I would expect this change of tariff surely?

There's a massive difference. I was paying about €20 per month but it's gone up to about €120. €1200pa!

I don't really have anything concrete I can suggest but I'm sure you're not the only person who has a property which is let out for only part of the year. Maybe an accountant can help in this kind of situation, otherwise a local chamber of commerce might know. Sorry I can't be any more help!

€20 on the domestic tariff buys around 5 cubic metres per month. €120 on the non-domestic tariff buys around 15 cubic metres per month (which would only have cost €44-ish on the domestic tariff).
Rental clients are not known for being careful with their host's utilities. Are you comparing bills for the same consumption? Is it just seasonal variation adding insult to injury?

Ouch.. nasty increase. Any chance of installing a bore-hole?

Perhaps another reason why so many people just do their rentals "on the fly"

Thanks Richard,
I'm very embarrassed to admit that I didn't scrutinise the figures. I can confirm your figures (very roughly), the actual increase is more like 280% rather than my alleged 600%. It's still about €600 increase a year. Up to now, I've done a soft pressure on guests - 'don't waste water, it's in short supply' but probably have to look to start charging by usage (more admin overhead). The there's the air-con...! but that's another story.
