Looking for someone who has installed panels and linked up to the grid, and could spare a phone call chat to discuss realities of purchase/installation and then running the system. Thanks.

Sorry to drop in from in from the Italian forum. I was actually waiting for someone to reply as we are on the point of installing the panels.
Here in Italy the government pays 43 cents per kw produced if the panels are completely integrated in the roof or 41 if they are on top of it.We use around 7kwh per year and the cost of the installation was around 50,000 E to be returned in 15 years time. We need more time to think as we do have lack of sunshine on the roof in winter.
Looking forward to hear from people who have experience in this.
Regards,
Isakat

From what little I know about Solar panels.... I would say for the cost its a poor investment. On the green issue they are hazardous to dispose of once they at the end of their life and on cost savings... 15 years to get your money back?! Yes thats if they don't need replaced by then or any other major repairs?!
On the linking up to the grid to put power back into the system, I am of the understanding that here in Portugal EDP give you far less per KW to what they charge for the kw's you use!
Isakat, to spend 50k on electrictity I assume you have a large hotel
Thats my negative tuppance worth on the issue

As Isacat said about the government help, there is also a similar thing the government offer here in PT, not sure on the details but there are grants or schemes available at the moment for solar!
Maybe somebody else could shed more light on this but it might be worth looking into Butt

The 15 years I mentioned is the term to pay the bank the money you have borrowed.Depending on how much power you produce, you get your money back before.
I wish I had a hotel;at least I would have an income, instead I have a house which is a bottomless pit.It is costing me 250/300 euro in ellectricity every 2 mts .
This morning I saw a house near by that had both panells installed( hot water and ellectricity) and will ring their bell and ask them questions.

Isakat
