Does anyone know of any good deals in the tavira/faro area for pay as you go internet sim cards to use in an ipad, have checked the three main suppliers Meo, Vodaphone and Nos, online from england but are all very expensive.
Maybe the local stores are running special offers that are not advertised online

Nope all are expensive , the main players practice a monopoly . keeping their prices all the same.

The cheapest I could get was a Moche sim. Paid €9.90 for 16GB. When you are done with it, you dump it and get a new one.

Hi UKram,
Can you please post some more info about where you can get this Moche SIM from? I haven't been able to locate their actual website.
Thank you.

Got it in Viana do Castelo at a general cellphone shop. The guy there assured me that it is 16GB and the package states 16GB MEO CLOUD. Whatever that means.

hmm. Cloud storage is just that really (like Dropbox or Google Drive) it's storage for files and media and nothing to do with internet access. By the looks of it you atually get 200mb per month with an option to pay 10 euro for a further 1gb.
16gb for €9.90 via GSM seemed too good to be true + isn't
Cheapest Internet only deal to my knowledge is UZO which is €2.90 per month for 200mb http://www.uzo.pt/pt/tarifario/pagina.uzo

I am still using my MOCHE sim after 2 weeks and 1.8GB used so far. Twice now they sent me an email to which I had to reply "EXTRA 250MB".

An update. My MOCHE internet stopped working after 15 days so I went to Worten. They pointed out to me that the packaging states that it is "15 days gratis" usage. They topped it up for me at €15 for 5GB's that I must use up in 37 days. It does not carry over and I must top it up every 37 days.
I am now looking for unlimited internet but NOS and MEO only have packages offering a bunch of "free" tv channels, wifi, music and telephone calls for €49.99 to €67.00 pm.
I don't need all that "free" stuff. All I want is uncapped internet and I will use it for tv, internet and Skype.

As you're finding out internet is a complete rip off here, especially PAYG. I doubt you'll find an unlimited package for love nor money. I eventually bit the bullet and took a 12 month contract with Vodafone for €30 which although supposedly unlimited they reserve the right to throttle the speed to 128kb after 15 GB a month. I haven't been there jet so don't know if they would.

Unfortunately I had no signal , I could get 2mb 3g not the 4g stated. But would look a good deal if you can get a signal.
Tarifários Internet - NOS
While this is listed as FIXA internet it is actually not so , its a 4g router.
A reflash of the firmware would enable the likes of the ptsn option ,using a normal phone plugged into it for calls using the sim , but will invalidate warranty.I dont think any PT companies do this anyway, VODAphone used to do something similar with a home phone for rural 3g and internet in spain.
What I found is that the firmware is locked to prevent external antenna from working , which is only a 4g antenna socket.I have the MOAA on my roof so was wanting to use that , it is also prevented from voip in firmware which is a shame , rather they push the 3g home phone on you at a reasonable price , that is if again you can get a signal.
Importantly it is not with tv channels , or phone , for 25 beer tokens a month!BUT should you want the 2/3 g phone too thats 7 euros a month , with free calls to fixed lines in Most of EU.

algarveandroid. Why do you say that it is not for internet TV?
With a wifi enabled android stick in your TV, you should get internet TV even at the low 20Mbps bundle. Not so?

Nos do a 14 day trial , money back if it doesn't work , contract cancelled , no hassle.
Buy it , take it home , plug in your dongle to tv , test it and see.
But if your going cheap android dongle , expect problems.
Test the service with a pc or laptop , both wifi and connected to the router for streaming as well ,in order to rule out the dongle and wifi power strength for crap quality of the feed.
Google speedtest , run a few times to check your download speed too , should you decide to buy the nos service , if you dont get the 4g , just take it back to NOS.

Yes...it did sound too good to be true for Portugal.. . The Moche packages expire after 30 days. Still better than MEO, whose package I current have which is valid for only 24 days.
