My PT friends son was at Baril beach near Tavira a couple of days ago and has terrific footage on his phone off an 8ft shark swimming 20ft offshore.

Its far more likely that it was a dolphin. They are much more common than sharks, especially in shallow waters. They also have dorsal fins.

About 3 weeks ago, strolling along Manta Rota beach with dog, we saw a group of 4 dolphins, about 100m offshore, tracking the coastline going West 2 East. First thought was shark, but then they were consistently doing the elegant movement where they come out of the water every 10m or so, and all together - very nice to see.
We also wondered what other large fish could be mistaken, does a tuna have any fins ?

NIce one....perhaps I'll throw sticks further out for the dog to swim for, and see if shark surfaces - camera ready ! Only joking.... Mind you, when we saw these 4 dolphins, the dog was some 20m from the shore, and my first thought was....bugger, as he paddled his way enthusiastically towards the stick

As there are many fishing trips taking holiday makers out shark fishing it is more than possible that one could venture inshore chasing a shoal of smaller fish.
If anyone does go on one of these trips remember CATCH and RELEASE.

Intersting indeed! What kind of shark?
