Yesterday afternoon, I put up my car for sale on two well-known Portuguese wesbites Within minutes, a text message from a "James Borgenson Sr" arrived, requesting me to e-mail him with more details. The reply text function did not work. But he gave an e-mail address. I sent a short message, not saying anything more than what was already in the ad. An hour later, a message from "James Borgenson Sr" arrived saying, "I am on a ship in Bermuda at the moment. If you send me your PayPal details, I can buy your car immediately. Then my courier will come and pick it up. Where in Lisbon you live ?"

At which point I put the message in the spam folder and blocked the address.

I just did a search on google under his name. Surprise surprise - the scam's been going for a while now!

Be wise people. And for ads, create a dedicated e-mail address, never use your work, or business/finance e-mail address.

I´m in Lisbon - close to the airport. The Silver Coast stretches quite a long way up the coast. If you are nearer the Obidos/Peniche end, then you´re not a million miles (or rather kilometers) away. But if you´re nearer to Porto, then it could be a bit of a trek. I have put the car up in the classified section of this forum.
