Returning Brits from Portugal will need to self quarantine
What is all this I am hearing on the lunchtime news???
I must admit to not understanding this at all.
Are we sure that this is not the Portuguese not wanting Brits in at all?
Is Portugal so dangerous from CV-19???

Re: Returning Brits from Portugal will need to self quarantine
Quite the reverse, in fact - it was Portugal which argued from the outset of the UK quarantine proposals that it would be making every effort to negotiate an exemption for travellers / returners from Portugal.
The PT government insists that its statistics are accurate and argues that countries which are keeping their frontiers closed to arrivals from Portugal, or imposing a quarantine period on them, are using the wrong metrics to determine whether the country is a safe destination or not.

An announcement about this is not expected until next week.

Re: Returning Brits from Portugal will need to self quarantine
Now I see that the decision to continue quarantine for people returning from Portugal,is a big spike in cases in the Lisbon area.....all sounds a bit fishy to me.
In any event I am coming over next weekend returning on the 23rd, so maybe if still a prob I would just go to Seville and go back to UK from there.

Looking at mass protests, illegal raves, people crowding out beaches, thousands gathering to celebrate a football match it saddens me to say that an awful lot of Brits look to have decided that "it's all over"

Re: Returning Brits from Portugal will need to self quarantine
This map shows the possible reasoning of the current decision,
https://inews.co.uk/news/uk/uk-air-b...-latest-441902
Using these figures I guess its clear why the decision is what it is.
But on the other hand and using the same logic it would seem crazy that the other countries, except Portugal, would allow Brits in at all at the moment !!
AS far as my little part of the UK is concerned (town of 20K people East Anglia), it is clear that there are many more cars on the roads than say 2 weeks ago. At supermarkets that I go to only a number are allowed in at a time, so there is queuing at the doors. More people are wearing masks in the open, but still only maybe 30% max. Bust still cannot get an appointment with a GP, minor Clinics (centro de Saude) closed. Young adults take no precautions at all. Beaches on North Norfolk coast (best in Europe) maxed out....but these are massive beaches 6 miles wide and 1mile out when tide is out, but last week I was there a few times and I must admit that you dont get a sense of anything different to normal year, apart from the obvious things like beach shop distancing. I think the minute it was announced that there is much less risk in the open air, people took that as zero risk. SO I think its a mixed picture, younger ones tend to be less concerned. Not seen a policeman for 3 mnths !!!! But I bet if quarantine is still in place when I return on 23rd July they will be round my gaff within a couple of days cause they have my permanent details in UK, so again we shoot our own. They know how difficult it would be to fine a foreigner for not quarantining but not a Brit. Well thats my take on it around here.......... (pop in total in the council area 100K cases 210 in total)

Re: Returning Brits from Portugal will need to self quarantine
Taking figures from Wiki (all numbers come from country Gov sources) over the last 2 weeks the increase in cases in each country looks like this:
Spain +4700
France +6700
Italy +3500
Netherlands +1300
Portugal +4600
Turkey +20,000
Greece +250
Belgium +1500
UK +16,000
So Portugal does stand out as being a problem, if you just consider ratio of population/extra cases..

Re: Returning Brits from Portugal will need to self quarantine
Can you not read the numbers?????? Or do you just ignore the facts?? Raves, illegal gatherings and all other gatherings are irrelevant, until the numbers show it was a problem
In Portugal the numbers show new cases confirmed over last 2 weeks is 4600, in a population of maybe 9.5 million = 1 in 2000
In UK " " " " is 16,000, in a population of about 67million = 1 in 4200
So on that basis Portugal has double the amount of new cases per million of population.
