Smile Resident or Non Resident...?? whats best

Hi There

i was hoping someone may be able to help us with a simple answer to a complicated question please...??!

Are there any benefits to becoming a Resident in Portugal.....or not...

we will be spending time in the UK & PT - but havent really looked into the pros & cons....?

any straight forward advice would really be welcomed!!

thanks - H

Depending on time spent in each country you may be deemed a resident in each and have to re-apply when you move back.
Also you could lose your UK health cover if you leave for too long.

I am resident.
I dont really see any advantage to it,to be honest.I went through the process simply because I was selling a house and buying another, and the CGT is less if I am resident.
No,cant think of any benefit whatsoever

You are resident regardless of whether or not you apply, if you send more than a certain amount of time here.

After 6 months you are deemed to be a resident, we have lived here now for 13 months and the main benefit for me is that I now pay PT income tax on my works pension which is a lot less than the UK, also prescriptions charges are very much cheaper with the PT medical card.

Here you need every piece of paper that you have had in your life and two copies and they will still find a piece you are missing.

Medical centre would not register us until we went to the Social Security office with passport, fiscal card, residencia and they asked to see proof of my private pension then 4 months later we received the paper copy of our Carte du Utente and believe it or not we are still waiting for our plastic copy, we go over regularly to ask for it and they keep telling us it has not arrived yet.
