Recommending private language tutor in/near Lagos (or online)
Hi, anyone have any good recommendations? Saw a post from about 10 years ago about a great tutor in burgau, but there wasn’t a name and the thread is now closed. Any recommendations? Would be open to an insttucor anywhere in Portugal if they do lessons on Zoom/Skype. I’ve taken a couple group classes here in Lagos at the language school - the instructor was very good, but the group class dynamic that was great at first is now starting to feel a bit slow. Thanks!

I don't have any direct answer to your specific query.
However, the local University's Course in Portuguese for Foreigners is extremely good value and if the timetabling is doable for you you should consider.
The Lecturers will doubtless be of high standard, and if any of them should seem particularly good you could ask if they also do private lessons, or could recommend someone who does.

Thanks for that - great recommendation. Looks like it starts in October. We are hoping to start lessons in August if possible, but if not, this might be a good alternative. Still open to other private tutor ideas if available. Thank you all

If I were in your situation, and you will be around during the academic session commencing October I would definitely enroll now.
The 'propina' ( Fee) is minimal. And once enrolled you will have the name(s) of those involved in organizing and delivering the classes : nothing to stop you contacting them in advance of October to request recommendations for good quality private tutors.
Have you tried watching Portuguese TV with subtitles ?
Eg, on the Memória channel they sometimes broadcast Will and Grace in the original English, with Port. subtitles.
You can pick up some colloquial Portuguese that way.
Similarly with current films in cinemas : usually in English with Portuguese subtitles ( I surmise that this is the reason most Portuguese have good English ~ they are brought up hearing it all the time on TV and in popular culture generally. )

For the Uni course above, the campus seems to be Faro. Could be a bit of an ask to travel to from Lagos for a 2hr lesson, twice a week
You could supplement the group lessons with one to one privates if you did opt for the Uni. Course. Its number of hours-price ratio is pretty good, especially if the group size isn't excessive.

Not a tutor, but a website offering paractice in European Portuguese (as opposed to Brazilian like most online sites....)
Try https://www.practiceportuguese.com
As an example of the video content, try https://www.practiceportuguese.com/v...gues-com-asas/
You don't have to pay, but you get access to more content if you do.....

Thanks - I used that for a couple of months before taking classes. Was pretty helpful and would be very helpful if I was better at self-motivating. Kind of like DuoLingo but European Portuguese instead of Brazilian.
